When the EU rolled out GDPR, it redefined the landscape of responsible data use and deployment in the bloc. In a bid to keep bolstering trust in tech, the EU is also pushing forward regulations on AI systems in particular. 🤝

Currently, the proposal includes a tiered system of regulations, depending on the 'riskiness' of the AI system's application. But the draft regulations were put out in February.

Yet, as covid-19 pushes for rapid AI development and deployment, it brings new importance to the regulations.
The risks couldn't be higher for these health tech systems to get it right. 🤔

With humain.ai we've been taking a closer look at what the European regulations -article on this will follow- mean for the development of custom AI solutions and it is my opinion that it is indeed no foolish choice by the EU to focus on trust. 💡

Compared to the "move fast and break things" attitude from the US, and the "anything goes, just get the data" approach by China, a focus on building ethical & trustworthy AI is kind of like choosing to be the responsible adult in the room. But how can you be responsible without missing out on all the fun? How do we ensure the safety of these tools without stalling their innovation? Especially in times of need? ☯️

The spotlight is a collection of top-notch journalism exploring different applications, challenges and impacts of today's AI systems. Not only is the report a great birds-eye-view of the field, but each piece is a fascinating read on its own. 🤯
