📅 Throw Back Thursday - Brussels Architecture Prize 2023

🥇 Very proud with our nomination in the category Public Space for the renewal of the district. Also a big thanks to the organizers to produce very nice video interviews with us. This offers us as designers the opportunity to explain the project objectives to a larger audience, taking them on an on-site visit.

Also a shoutout for the other nomination by Bogdan. Ten years ago citydev.brussels and BMA bouwmeester maître architecte asked us to make a feasibility study and detailed masterplan for this new urban economic district. We are happy to see the result, translating the urban design principles and regulations in qualitative architecture.

Very excited to continue with our placemaking support to the great Safe and Sound Cities program. After two years of piloting with bold youth organisations and cities, we and our partners will support them further on this journey towards system change and implementation of vibrant and inclusive innovation projects.

🎉 Sweco zet de koers uit met het Beleidsplan Ruimte Mechelen!

Het Beleidsplan werd op 25 maart goedgekeurd door de Gemeenteraad. We zijn heel trots op het voorbije traject van twee jaar om met stad Mechelen een ambitieus Beleidsplan Ruimte op te stellen. Dit plan markeert een nieuwe mijlpaal in de ruimtelijke ontwikkeling van de stad en zet de koers uit voor een duurzame en slimme groei.

Onze synthese:
🌿 Het Beleidsplan Ruimte Mechelen is een toekomstgericht kader dat zich richt op kwalitatieve groei zonder extra ruimtebeslag. We hebben ons ingezet voor een robuust ruimtelijk beleid dat niet alleen de groei faciliteert, maar deze ook omvormt tot een positieve transformatie van de stad en haar open ruimte.
💧 Samen met onze partners Spatie maakt Ruimte, Kenter, KULeuven, Rebel en UHasselt ontwikkelden we drie beleidskaders: 'Mechelen Groeit', 'Groenblauwe Stad' en 'Mechelen Werkt'. Deze kaders bevatten strategieën voor verdichting, versterking van groenblauwe structuren en economische ontwikkeling.
🔍 Onze aanpak is steeds gericht op het creëren van een geïntegreerd proces met intensieve samenwerking tussen diverse experts, stadsdiensten en lokale belanghebbenden. Een plan pakt niet alleen de huidige maatschappelijke en klimatologische uitdagingen aan, maar zorgt ook voor een breed draagvlak binnen de gemeenschap.

We kijken uit naar de positieve impact van dit plan op Mechelen en zijn inwoners. Een grote dank aan iedereen die heeft bijgedragen aan dit project en aan Stad Mechelen voor het vertrouwen in Sweco.

HART VAN HAMME!
Samen met Abscis Architecten, het gemeentebestuur en andere experten heben we met enthousiasme gewerkt aan de recente transformatie van het centrum van Hamme. We zetten daarbij de herbestemming van bestaande gebouwen en nieuwe infrastructuur in om te werken aan een sterke, rustige dorpskern, waar generaties elkaar ontmoeten en lokale economie floreert.

Brussels is planting green! 🌿 💧 🌳

With Sweco, we are committed to making neighborhoods and cities climate-robust, anticipating more rain, heat and drought every year. Together with partners, we translate this into innovative demonstration projects and co-creative projects.
After two years of intensive collaboration with Bruxelles Mobilité - Brussel Mobiliteit, the first results of the unsealing and greening of streets and squares in the Brussels Capital Region. Since streets and squares make up 40% of all open space in Brussels, this is where we see the great opportunities for change at scale.
To increase the impact, we are supporting the Brussels Region with a call to Brussels residents to formulate and further develop ideas for more greening and unsealing public space.

BUUR Part of Sweco won the assignment to make an integrated city-wide greenblue plan for the city of Turnhout!

Together with the local experts and stakeholders of the city of Turnhout, we are taking advantage of the climate change challenges to make the transition to a green-blue city that is climate resilient and also offers a high quality of life. The green and blue plan will look at the hydrographic network as a basis to create hydro-ecological and spatial connections. It will include an action plan for tangible, integrated design solutions, that are embedded in a broader storyline about the future of Turnhout.

✨ With the Rue Neuve in Brussels, we delivered a project that has not gone unnoticed. The Brussels Architecture Prize nominated our entry in the Public Space category.

✔️ Together with our client city of Brussels, Beliris and our partners we drew an ambitious master plan for Rue Neuve and a design to transform the neighbourhood into a lively, attractive urban district. Together with Ville de Bruxelles - Stad Brussel, Beliris and our partners, we worked intensively for ten years. We are proud of the result: a renewed public space that invites you to meet, relax and discover.
