Functional safety is an essential part of the machine design process, and it is key to protecting the health and safety of machine operators and keeping the production process up and running.

WPMS can support you in the safety design and evaluation of your safety-related controls in the context of EN ISO 13849-1. This by means of the SISTEMA software utility (Safety Integrity Software Tool for the Evaluation of Machine Applications) of IFA (Institut für Arbeitsschutz der Deutschen Gesetzlichen Unfallversicherung). The tool enables users to model the structure of the Safety-Related Parts of Control Systems (SRP/CS) based upon the "designated architectures", and ultimately permits automated calculation of the reliability values at various levels of detail, including that of the attained Performance Level (PL) in order to check compliancy to the required performance level PLr (the performance level to be reached in order to achieve the required risk reduction for each safety function) resulting of the risk assessment.

WPMS - Worldwide Project Management Services applies the during the complete project life cycle in order to demonstrate compliancy before the hand-over to the end-user and to prepare the end-user to maintain compliancy afterwards during the lifecycle of the industrial automation and control systems ( ).

The IEC62443, developed to secure IACS throughout their lifecycle, was initially developed for the industrial process sector but IACS are found in an ever-expanding range of domains and industries, such as power and energy supply and distribution, and transport. IACS technologies are central to critical infrastructure.

IEC 62443 addresses not only the technology that comprises a control system, but also the work processes, countermeasures, and employees. The standard takes a holistic approach because not all risks are technology-based: the staff responsible for an IACS must have the required training, knowledge and skills to ensure security.

IEC 62443 takes a risk-based approach to cyber security, which is based on the concept that it is neither efficient nor sustainable to try to protect all assets in equal measure. Instead, users must identify what is most valuable and requires the greatest protection and identify vulnerabilities. They must then erect defence-in-depth architecture that ensures business continuity.

Worldwide Project Management Services managed already several for Instrumentation and Control ( &C) systems important to according to the (category A functions) and (category B or C functions) for Nuclear Power Plants ( ).

Both IEC standards provide requirements for the software of computer-based Instrumentation and control (I&C) systems of NPPs in order to achieve highly reliable software. They address each stage of software generation and documentation, including requirements specification, design, implementation, verification, validation and operation.

The category is defined by the establishing a method of classification of the information and command functions for NPP, and the instrumentation and control systems and equipment that provide those functions, into categories that designate the importance to safety of the function.
