Re-imagening Africa - Europe (trade) relationship.

Today I saw two videos that at first sight have nothing in common. But a brief reflection about those two storries gives us an important message regarding the current Africa - European trade relationship.

In one video we see a young Panafrican selfconscious young man giving a verry popular point of view nowadays from the new generation. A militant voice shouting to Macron # France # Europ that the Africans are not uncle Thom's anymore and will not accept Westen hegemony to continue rule over Africa.

In the other one we see a young Chinese lady calling with a client (from oversee in Congo maybe?). We see clearly that she is not in Africa but nontheless is speaking a Congolese language; Lingala.

I am wondering if this rings a bell? How can the average entrepreneur here in Europe have a great trade relationship with African countries if we do not bother about learning the African language/culture? AND this specially in current Africa with it's selfconsciousness?

In Afrika is er geen sociaal vangnet (buiten de familie). Men kan er niet terugvallen op openbare bijstand en of werkloosheidsuitkering, ...ziekenfonds. Bij mensengeheugenis onderneemt men in Afrika en of werkt men bij een ondernemer. Niet verwonderlijk dat hedendaagse jonge Afrikaanse ondernemers op 'the new wind of technology' meerijden bij het ondernemen.

Mooi dat Koning Boudewijnstichting deze jongeren aanmoedigde en hun innoverende initiatieven erkent want tussen de lijnen van onderstaand artikel is duidelijk te lezen dat dit blijkbaar niet voor iedereen een evidentie is.

Ondernemen in Afrika!? Quote: ‘Als ondernemer moet je moeite doen om die investeerders te ontmoeten. Als investeerder moet je je eigen vooroordelen en risico-aversie overwinnen en de mogelijkheden van het continent zien. Africa the new Mecca?!

During a visit in Congo in had the opportunity to discuss with a group of young entrepreneurs from Afrodescendance, raised in Europe but going back to Africa to start their bussines. More and more we see young potentials fed up with discrimination in Europe heading towards Africa. You find lawyers, doctors, trainers, ICT... Name it.

Raised in Europe, knowing the European culture they Often are the Go-between for European companies seeking a more Prosper economic Climate.
With an average of 5% BNP growth in most countries Africa is the new Eldorade for not only remigrating high potentials from Afrodescendance but allso the new Mekka for a lot of companies.

Side by Side with European entrepreneurs setteling in Africa you See companies blooming. Big marketing wallpapers are all over Kinshasa. No not the 2mx2m posters but monster posters of 10m. Big marketing budgets Go in events (See pictures).

In the lobby of the up to date standard modern Pullman I had a drink with two young entrepreneurs. One launching his own brand of energydrink and one launching his consultancy in political marketing. The overall tone is an optimistic, ambitious and above all high intellectual capacity of my interlocutors. They know Who they are, what they came to do in Africa and where the are heading.
