🎬 CinemaNext powers the SARAJEVO FILM FESTIVAL

For the 2026 edition, CinemaNext has once again brought its technical expertise to one of Southeast Europe's most important film events.

The Sarajevo Film Festival opened with Paweł Pawlikowski's "Fatherland," which earned the director the Best Director award at this year's Festival de Cannes. The opening-night gala at the National Theatre Sarajevo — along with the film's simultaneous screenings at the Coca-Cola Open Air Cinema, the UNIQA Open Air Cinema Stari Grad, the Open Air Cinema Centar "Safet Zajko," the Grbavica Cinema and the Ilidža Picnic Cinema — came to life through the close collaboration between cinema operator Cineplexx and CinemaNext as integrator.

🔧 Behind the scenes, CinemaNext Austria's Christof Federle led a team of experienced technicians from across Austria, Hungary and Croatia, working around the clock to deliver flawless picture and sound, from the red-carpet premiere through the rest of the festival.

🌟 This year also brings a milestone: the festival's first-ever Prix Cineplexx, created in partnership with Cineplexx, the leading cinema chain in Southeast Europe. Designed to connect festival recognition with a film's theatrical life, the award reflects a shared commitment to supporting films beyond the festival circuit and into cinemas.

Chosen by the festival audience, the Prix Cineplexx will be awarded to the best film in the Open Air Premiere programme. It carries a total value of €20,000: €15,000 in marketing services across Cineplexx cinemas to support the winning film's theatrical release, plus €5,000 in cash for the producer.

🕷️ What a weekend for the big screen.

Congratulations to Sony Pictures on the launch of "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," which opened to an estimated $927M worldwide, the second-biggest global opening on record and Sony’s largest to date. The film earned $572M across 66 international markets, setting new opening records in several territories, including France, India, Brazil, and Saudi Arabia, with China contributing an estimated $121M.

The milestone follows Universal Pictures’ "The Odyssey," which has now passed $900M worldwide and shows remarkable staying power, underscoring a robust year for theatrical releases across major studios.

🎞️ Everyone was talking about 70mm IMAX, but the rarest ticket for Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" was actually something far older: a humble 35mm print.

While IMAX 70mm dominated the headlines (41 venues worldwide, sell-outs seven weeks out, 2 a.m. screenings, etc.), 35mm quietly became the most exclusive way to see the summer's biggest film. It accounted for just 0.3% of the domestic U.S. opening (an estimated $374,000), a smaller slice than any other film format.

Yet that scarcity is exactly the point. From Tarantino's Vista in Los Angeles to Curzon Soho in London, a new generation of audiences - the same Gen Z reviving film photography - is seeking out celluloid on the big screen. Physical film isn't nostalgia anymore as much as it is a differentiator.

☀️ A proud milestone for outdoor cinema in Greece.

CinemaNext has successfully delivered and installed 28 premium luxury seats at A***N EXPERIENCE outdoor cinema in Glyfada, Athens - the first installation of its kind for an open-air cinema in Greece.

Featuring 25 Infinity Storm Sofa seats and 3 Infinity Storm Armchairs, specially engineered for continuous outdoor use, this project brings a new level of comfort, elegance and durability to the much-loved Greek summer cinema tradition.

🎬 Bravo à l'exploitation française !

La Fête du Cinéma 2026 signe son deuxième meilleur résultat en dix ans, avec 3,7 millions de billets vendus sur les quatre jours à 5€ la séance (du 28 juin au 1er juillet).

Un immense bravo à toutes celles et ceux qui, dans toute la filière cinématographique française, ont rendu cela possible. La programmation a été à la hauteur : « Toy Story 5 » a mené la danse (déjà plus de deux millions d'entrées en quinze jours), « Des Minions et des monstres » a signé une première semaine canon, et « La Bataille De Gaulle » a réalisé une remontada épique avec une progression hebdomadaire de 70%.

Entre les fortes chaleurs qui ont poussé le public vers la fraîcheur des salles, une belle programmation et une dynamique de fond installée depuis janvier, voilà un formidable signe de l'attrait durable du grand écran.

À la magie du cinéma (et aux exploitants, distributeurs et équipes qui remplissent les salles) ! 👏
