Avia-GIS

Avia-GIS SME specialising in collecting, managing and analysing spatial information as basis for developing information systems applied to animal & public health

Avia-GIS NV "Agriculture and Veterinary Information and Analysis" is a Belgian SME founded in 2001 that specializes in the collection, processing and analysis of spatial information as a basis for the development of data driven space-time information systems (STIS) applied to veterinary and public health in general and (emerging) zoonoses and vector-borne diseases (VBD) in particular. We focus on

the application of state of the art techniques that broaden the scope of conventional analyses and help bridge the gap between research and decision-making including: geographical information systems (GIS), spatial modelling and analysis, earth observation and satellite navigation. Avia-GIS is active in two main domains: (1) optimized health information systems and (2) precision pest management solutions. Within these domains Avia-GIS offers a range of services to research teams, governmental agencies, international organizations and the industry. These include: software, database and mobile applications development/maintenance; research and technical development; consulting; and capacity building. Our products generate high quality data, save time and reduce costs.

Today we installed the first set of Senzitall 2nd Generation Sensors with our new partner OnEdge — a big step forward for our team and technology. A huge thank you to everyone involved for the hard work, collaboration, and precision that made it happen. Exciting times ahead as we continue to innovate and improve our solutions!

How Can Europe Detect and Respond to Emerging Diseases Faster?
Meet MOOD!
We’re excited to share that MOOD, the epi-platform we helped develop with our partners, is now featured in the CORDIS Results (https://zurl.co/MymGn) in Brief and the EU Results Pack on AI in Life Sciences (https://zurl.co/bYOy0) .

MOOD (Monitoring Outbreak Events for Disease surveillance) is a powerful, open-access platform supporting one-health stakeholders in:
• Detecting emerging infectious diseases (human & animal),
• Tracking antimicrobial resistance (AMR) trends,
• Visualizing risks through predictive modeling and AI-driven maps.
By integrating event-based data (e.g., PADI-web), environmental and climate datasets, and advanced machine learning, MOOD enables faster, science-based public health decisions.

AVIA-GIS’s role: We developed the platform framework that is now hosting a unique set of co-variate data, risk model outputs and epidemiological tools provided by the MOOD partners, ensuring it meets real-world needs and we are the proud co-founder of the MOOD Non-Profit Association which will keep the platform alive.
Examples of proven impact in action:
• Tick-borne encephalitis: Predictive annual models using wildlife & land-use data,
• Avian influenza: Comparing transmission risk through wild and domestic birds,
• West Nile fever: Combining indicator-based and event-based surveillance data for modeling WNV risk,
• AMR hotspots: Identifying resistance trends in livestock.

Explore the platform: https://zurl.co/Xwj9b and see attached mini-poster for more info.

A big thanks to our incredible partners and we look forward to advancing this work through the MOOD Association with them.

This week, our field team was in Ath, taking proactive steps against the tiger mosquito following last year's detection of Aedes albopictus by the of Tropical Medicine Antwerp .
We engaged with the community, sharing effective prevention strategies and checking gardens for any eggs that might have survived the winter. We also began preventive treatments and explained citizens how to avoid temporary breeding sites.
Staying informed is crucial in our fight to keep our community safe and healthy.
Thanks to everyone in Ath for their active participation and commitment!
