Considered the oldest continuously inhabited city in Europe, Plovdiv has been inhabited since around 6000 BCE. The city has seen Thracian, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman influences. Its strategic location along the ancient trade routes of the Balkans made it an important cultural and economic center that still thrives today.
