there is a perpetual saying in life (and in archaeology as well) that you can always go lower…
now in our case that is just not true: we officially hit rock bottom at our sondage ⛏️

but in our attempt to get to the bottom we discovered 2 clay layers filled with amphorae and hellenistic pottery under the modern rubbish and an abundance of seashells 🐚

POV:
1. when you are searching for the outline of a wall, and you finally reach an in situ layer next to it, under 1 m of seashells and rocks
2. then you find a chocolate bar wrapper from 2000 right at the bottom of the shell layer
3. archaeology is truly beautiful!
