Leadership Development with Business Games
Researchers from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (Brazil) argued that possible method to develop leaders is the use of experiential techniques based on business games.
They analyzed 5 leadership games: Administrator case simulation; Group decision simulation; Leader; Army excellence in leadership and Virtual leader. The games were analyzed considering the following:
A. The goals addressed by the authors regarding the design and use of the game for leadership development;
B. The pedagogical and technical features of the game regarding the pedagogical methods used, the interactive media, and elements of evaluation and feedback;
C. The theoretical bases on leadership that supports the conceptual model of the game
D. The effectiveness of the game in meeting the goal of developing leaders.
They concluded that leadership development supported by business games remains an open field with many possibilities of evolution. Benefits generated by its use in organizational environments may in fact improve the development of the leaders who can be better prepared to deal with the complexity of knowledge society.
