Building renewable energy infrastructure comes with a responsibility to create lasting value beyond the energy we generate.

SUNOTEC’s sustainability strategy centres on embedding sustainability for the climate, land, resources, and people across our organisation and translating our commitments into meaningful action.

EcoVadis, one of the world’s leading sustainability rating platforms, has now assessed this approach. In our first assessment, SUNOTEC achieved a score of 68 out of 100, placing us in the 72nd percentile of assessed companies, with the environment as our strongest-performing category. The assessment recognised the reach of our sustainability activities across SUNOTEC, our participation in global and industry initiatives, and our implementation of internationally recognised standards. It also reflects the policies we have established across areas such as environmental responsibility, human rights, health and safety, ethical sourcing and supply chain traceability.

The result provides external recognition of the foundations already in place, while giving us a clear framework to strengthen our measures as SUNOTEC continues to grow.

A new space to play, move and connect opened just in time for the first day of school. Together with Municipal Bank AD, the SUNOTEC Foundation supported the creation of a new 600 m² playground and sports area for the children of the Lozenets Centre for Special Educational Support in Sofia.

Built on a former asphalt courtyard, the new space includes three dedicated areas, from outdoor fitness to children’s play equipment and mini football, providing a safe and welcoming environment for outdoor activity. Importantly, the space will also be open to children and families from the surrounding neighbourhood, extending its value beyond the centre and creating a new place for the wider community to come together.

Konstantin Pavlov, Mayor of Sofia’s Lozenets district, officially opened the playground alongside Silvia Peeva, Director of the Centre, and representatives of Municipal Bank and the SUNOTEC Foundation.

Through the SUNOTEC Foundation, we support initiatives across education, healthcare, culture, sport and environmental protection. This project reflects the purpose behind that work by creating practical, lasting improvements in people’s everyday lives.

Through the SUNOTEC Foundation, we supported the complete renovation of the third floor of a new educational facility in Pazardzhik.

The building has now been officially handed over to the Medical University of Plovdiv, an important step toward establishing a university branch in the city. The newly renovated floor provides modern teaching facilities needed to expand medical education in Pazardzhik. In the future, the branch will allow students to train closer to home, strengthen cooperation between the University and local healthcare institutions, and help the region educate and retain the medical professionals it needs.

Dimitar E. Dimitrov, Head of Sustainability at SUNOTEC, joined representatives of the Municipality of Pazardzhik, the Medical University of Plovdiv and local healthcare institutions for the official handover. For the SUNOTEC Foundation, meaningful support begins with understanding what a community needs and investing in initiatives that can make a lasting difference. In Pazardzhik, this means creating new educational opportunities while strengthening the future of healthcare across the region.

We are grateful to the Municipality of Pazardzhik, the Medical University of Plovdiv and all partners who helped make it possible. This project shows us that a renovated building can create opportunities far beyond its walls.

Our 150 MW / 379 MWh BESS in Brusartsi, Bulgaria, has been successfully completed and connected to the grid.

The project is part of our growing energy storage portfolio and reflects our approach as system integrator, bringing together the infrastructure, expertise and partnerships required across the lifecycle of an energy asset. That lifecycle continues beyond commissioning. As our optimisation and energy trading partner, GEN-I, d.o.o. provides commercial management for both assets, connecting them to electricity and balancing markets and optimising their operation to create long-term value.

Together with our 50 MW / 126 MWh BESS in Byala Slatina, the first operational milestone of our strategic partnership with GEN-I, the two facilities represent a combined 200 MW of power and 505 MWh of storage capacity. Both are now connected to the grid, strengthening system flexibility and supporting the integration of renewable energy.

The cooperation is scaling with nine additional BESS projects, with a combined 195 MW / 782 MWh already in development in Bulgaria as part of our investment strategy, and are expected to enter full commercial operation within the next twelve months.
