⚙️ As industrial insect farming matures, attention is shifting from proving the concept to scaling it. That transition depends on one of the industry's most complex biological processes: insect reproduction.
🐛 Unlike larvae production, insect reproduction is still highly dependent on manual work, biological expertise, and constant human intervention. Every stage - from breeding colony management to egg production and neonate quality - requires precise environmental control and continuous monitoring.
🎉 After years of research and development, we at Nasekomo believe that we've taken an important step towards solving that challenge. Our company is going successfully to complete the 3B Project: " , and for an -Mediated ", resulting in a highly automated Black Soldier Fly reproduction facilities, probably the first in Europe with such level of automation.
🔦 The €3.5 million project received €2.5 million in grant funding through Bulgaria's National Recovery and Resilience Plan as well as the Ministry of Innovation and Digital Transformation, Bulgaria, financed by the European Union instrument following Nasekomo's 2022 Seal of Excellence award.

Last week we had the pleasure of welcoming Ms. Yordanka Chobanova, Head of the European Commission Representation in Bulgaria, to Nasekomo. Европейската комисия в България / European Commission in Bulgaria

The visit came at a particularly meaningful moment for us, as we are approaching the completion of our 3B Project – Bits, Bots & Bugs for an Insect-mediated Circular Economy, co-funded by the European Union through Bulgaria's Recovery and Resilience Plan and the Ministry of innovation and digital transformation in Bulgaria - Министерство на иновациите и дигиталната трансформация

Over the past two years, the project has enabled us to transform ambitious ideas into industrial reality. Together with our partners, we have developed technologies that are reshaping insect farming through automation, robotics and AI, while expanding our capabilities to support the next generation of circular bioeconomy.

During the visit, we presented:
🟢 AIR2B – our automated insect rearing technology;
🟢 MultiFly 3B – our new reproduction centre, developed with EU financial support;
🟢 our vision for scaling sustainable bioconversion technologies across Europe.

The conversation focused on innovation and European regulation—two pillars that must evolve together. While science and technology create new opportunities, a robust regulatory framework is essential to ensure food and feed safety, build trust and protect European companies that invest in meeting the EU's high standards from unfair competition through non-compliant imports. This balance is what allows responsible innovation to thrive.

Тhe 3B project comes to an end, but we see it as an foundation for the next chapter of industrial insect technology.

VIV Europe 2026 gave us exactly what we were hoping for – the opportunity to meet companies that share our belief that the future of food and agriculture will be built through innovation, technology and circular thinking.
🤝 What made this year's edition especially valuable was the diversity of discussions. We met feed producers, pet food companies, agricultural businesses, technology providers, investors and industrial partners who may come from different sectors but are united by similar challenges: resource efficiency, sustainability, scalability and resilience. 🌿
🐛 At Nasekomo, we believe insect farming is not just about insects. It is about combining biology, genetics, robotics, AI and industrial know-how to create new opportunities for the food and agricultural industries. That is why some of the most exciting conversations were with people who had not initially considered insect bioconversion as part of their solution.
