In the spirit of the 2026 crafting challenge and the "Never Have I Ever..." category that I will be judging...

I am sharing my experience and notes of making my first ever rough-out bag. It's all written in the slides but above all it was a lot of fun. The feeling of experimentation and discovery, and not knowing what the outcome will be, is a something I think we should pursue as makers from time to time. 😊 It is a given new beginner experiences will add to our skills set orat least one will know if they like or not that new for them thing, no matter if it is an item or a technique. 🥹

I can't wait to see everyone's "Never Have I Ever..." entries for the challenge. 😊

With the 2026 Crafting Challenge announced, let's take a closer look at the Keel Bag pattern for the main challenge categories. 😊

Short shoulder bags that tuck snugly directly under one’s arm rather than hanging at the hip continue to be trendy and a preferred choice for many especially during the summer (fully confirmed with my 15-years old daughter!). 😁

The Keel Bag came to life with such a short handle and carry style in mind. The design shifts a gusset type usually used on the side of a bag to its front for a stylish, modern and clean look. 🤓

The pattern comes in two build variations - a fully lined one with a hidden magnet closure and a non-lined version that will give more casual but trendy vibes when bold color and textures combinations are used. For the non-lined version you can use variety of hidden or exposed closures. 🙂

After a month of preparations I am excited to kick-off this year's DS Leather Goods crafting challenge. 🥳

Every year, I challenge myself to "upgrade" it all and for the first time ever, there will be also three open, non-pattern related categories to push everyone hopefully beyond the usual. 😊

All details are on the slides but feel free to message me with any questions. One very important bit is to send me your entry/category via DM once you have posted it.

Next six weeks will be very exciting and I can't wait to see what fellow crafters will make. 🤓

Join me in welcoming the judges of the 2026 DS Leather Goods crafting challenge! ❤️

By tradition the intorductions come with a little bio to glimpse beyond their amazing works shared in their profiles.

They don't know this but this year, I would like to invite them to not only spectate and judge the entries but also craft something for any of the categories (outside of the competition of course)... I will send you the Keel Bag pattern in a minute too. I know I will challenge myself to "enter" at least couple of the categories. 😁

For the life of me I couldn't get the camera to shoot a consistent white balance from photo to photo and show the deep dark blue Oceano Maremma exterior properly. 😳

Anywho... the Dory wallet in a leather that I haven't used in a few years but was quickly reminded of how great it is for wallets. Burnishes awesome, great shine without being glossy, still stiff at low weights. A definite winner in my books.
