Prior to 2011, Bahrain actually saw a bigger number of tourist arrivals than UAE, with the majority of tourists coming from Saudi Arabia. However as a result of the instability in the country, the numbers halved between 2010 and 2011. Qatar is seeing growth in tourism as well, as every year more and more people arrive. Oman has been seeing a gradual decline in the number of tourists, despite the Government’s plan to attract 12 million tourists in 2020. Currently, that achievement seems far away, although the country most certainly has much to offer to the traveler.
Saudi Arabia attracts the biggest number of visitors and has recently witnessed big increases. Mostly it relies on religious tourism. Lone female travelers are not allowed entry into the country, without a family member accompanying them. UAE, with Dubai leading the way is forecasted to continue to attract more and more visitors and could reach 25 million a year by the end of decade, according to some reports. The region in general is expected to see increasing tourist arrivals.

We can observe that Saudi Arabia is indeed very big – if placed in Europe, it would be the size of Portugal, Spain, France, UK, Germany and Italy combined! Oman is about the same size as Poland, UAE the size of Austria and the remaining three countries are miniature in comparison to Saudi Arabia. Kuwait would be approximately the size of Slovenia, Qatar the size of Montenegro and Bahrain would just about cover Menorca (a Spanish Island).

New yoga session for Bahrain City Center shoppers

Bahrain City Center, the largest shopping, entertainment and lifestyle destination in the Kingdom, is introducing Odaka Yoga to female shoppers as part of the mall’s ongoing commitment to health and well-being in the community.

Founded by Roberto Milletti and Francesca Cassia from Italy, Odaka Yoga is a new version of yoga that utilizes a “liquid” yoga approach, with each wave-like move used to overcome barriers and develop emotional flexibility.

The “Odaka Yoga Never Stop Flowing” ladies-only exercise session is introducing a new style of Yoga to the region on February 24, said a top official.

“We’re continuously looking for innovative ways to engage with shoppers and encourage the community to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle. We are excited to host internationally recognized yoga instructors for the Odaka Yoga session, and welcome shoppers to sign up to experience the innovative yoga form in a fun, friendly environment at the mall,” said Duaij Khalifa Al Rumaihi, the senior mall manager for Bahrain City Centre.

Up to 200 women of any fitness level can participate in the one-time 9am session, during which they will be encouraged to embody the flow of life with awareness, joy and empowerment.

On its Middle East debut, Instructor Milletti said, “We are so happy and honored to live and share timeless moments with the people of Bahrain. In every instant yoga is with us, and it is the medium to surf the waves of life. An asana yoga position works and stretches the body in ways that create new needs and possibilities for further exploration and change.”

Milleti was featured as one of the three world leaders in new contemporary forms of yoga. He has created Odaka Yoga, incorporating martial arts, zen and traditional yoga postures.

Francesca Cassia is an internationally respected instructor, having taught in the US, Europe, Australia and Japan; and has dedicated her life to the empowering and transformative process of yoga.-Source:TradeArabia News Service

Bahrain plans big beach development

A new BD2 million ($5.3 million) coastal development that could turn the Zallaq area of Bahrain into a "maritime haven" has been given the green light.

The new beach project includes a specialist diving and snorkelling centre, a pier, alcohol-free restaurants, shops selling or renting maritime sports equipment and souvenir shops, reported the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.

Work is due to start this month after a new location was agreed following initial opposition from residents, who said the previous site was too small and too far from their homes.

"The new location granted to us by the Royal Court is bigger and better than the old one," said area councillor Bader Al Dossary.

"With it new ideas have come like turning Zallaq into Bahrain's biggest maritime haven that would not just see a pier built and a beach set up. It will now see the establishment of a specialised diving and snorkelling centre, with those interested in learning and recreation leaving the pier by boat and heading out to sea.

"It will also have alcohol-free restaurants, maritime sports sale and rental outlets, and souvenir shops."

He said businessmen would have the chance to lease shops at the location when it neared completion.

However, he added a beach bikini ban would be enforced for women.

"Women are welcome to use the diving and snorkelling centre since the clothing used for that purpose is not revealing," said Al Dossary.

"They can enjoy the beach with decent clothes, considering the facilities will be family oriented. But wearing bikinis is something that is not accepted," he stated

Meanwhile, the Southern Municipality is co-ordinating with the area's fishermen to erect a banoosh (a Bahraini fishing boat) as a monument at the entrance of Zallaq
