Posted • From Brunei to Sabah: Strengthening Regional Collaboration
It all started at the Brunei Startup Summit 2025, where SCENIC supported two Sabahan startups in showcasing their innovations. While the startups set up booths and explored opportunities, SCENIC facilitated valuable connections, opening doors for cross-border collaborations. That initial engagement has now led to Mr Jack from RISE Brunei visiting Sabah from March 13-14, further strengthening ties between the two ecosystems.
His visit focused on exploring collaborations with SCENIC, universities, and key stakeholders, connecting with startups seeking advice—especially those looking to expand into Brunei—discussing potential startup support initiatives, and exploring managed services collaborations across various industries. During his visit, Mr Jack first travelled to D&H Plantation in Kundasang on March 13, where he learned about local agricultural initiatives, followed by discussions on entrepreneurship development at Pusat Kerjaya dan Pembangunan Keusahawanan Pelajar (PKPKP) UMS. Today, March 14, he paid a courtesy visit to Digital and IoT Sandbox, KSTI, where he engaged with Sabahan social entrepreneurs and tech startups, offering one-on-one mentoring and exploring market expansion opportunities in Brunei.
Throwback to the Brunei Startup Summit 2025, Shahrizal (D&H Plantation) presented his onion farming initiative to Brunei’s Ministry of Finance II, Dato’ Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Amin, showcasing sustainable agricultural practices. Meanwhile, Ka Vui (Reviewbah) introduced his platform to Brunei’s Minister of Health, Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar, which led to a recommendation from BEDB CEO, Mr Daniel Leong to collaborate with Bee, a Bruneian tech startup, for market expansion.
Mr Jack’s visit is a testament to the power of regional networking and collaboration, and SCENIC is excited to continue bridging opportunities for Sabahan and Bruneian startups, ensuring sustainable growth in the ASEAN startup ecosystem!
