The Royal Gala : Raya 2025

calvinthoo X Ulin Songket

A collaboration with an Indonesian songket designer from Palembang .. while they produce all types of songkets but we requested to work with their City’s famous Songket Limar .

Without bias , Ulin Songket didnt dissapoint as they really gave us their best quality songkets to work with , colourful threads woven with golds and silvers .

I didn’t want to sway too much from the essence of Indonesia , therefore we designed and a collection of mainly kebayas ; mix and match with corded lace tops as well as embroidered nyonya kebayas .

It was indeed an new but very memorable experience for us as they provided us songket lengths of just the skirts and shawl ; exactly like how the Indonesians buys them .. where by in Malaysia, we normally will get lengths enough for an entire outfit . How interesting !! ♥️♥️

They also wanted to show off their City’s batik motifs ; called “ jumputan” .. its the first time I have seen these batiks and I find them to be quite interesting as their motives reminded me of the drawing of a todler’s .

A collaboration with a renowned batik designer brand from the state of Kelantan ; whereby we make and design a capsule collection of a more relax ResortWear for those who might want to go away for holidays during Raya .. For this collection of batik attires ; we designed caftans , jubah / dress as well as some more casual ensemble for that outing in the evenings .. ♥️♥️

Designs by Calvin Thoo . A more modern twist to the Baju Kurung and Kebaya ; while still maintaining the calvin thoo ‘s philosophy of a comfortable cut with fine beadwork .

For this collection we use lots of fancy nets as well as corded laces with a darker jewel colour pallete . There is something for everyone who desires an outfit that is simple enough to bring them from day to night . ♥️♥️

This is how the berbedak outfit is worn with the sampin ; called Jongsarat in Brunei .

We designed the kurung modern to match the accessories and also to enable the outfit to be able to be worn again after the Wedding event.

This piece of Tenun Pahang DiRaja is very unique in design .. its simple but its one of the most challenging piece to cut .. I was scratching my head on how to cut it so that we can do justice to the material.

Alhamdulilah.. everything fitted well and looked good when Romy came for fitting ..
