Today our city celebrates 471 years!
São Paulo is Portuguese for “Saint Paul”, also named Saul of Tarsus, commonly known as Paul the Apostle.

1. It’s the Largest City in Brazil (and the Americas!)
• São Paulo is the largest city in Brazil, with a population of over 12.5 million people in the city proper and around 22 million in the metropolitan area, making it the largest metropolitan area in the Americas.
2. A Global Business Hub
• Known as the financial capital of Brazil, São Paulo is home to the São Paulo Stock Exchange (B3), one of the largest stock exchanges in the world.
• The city generates over 10% of Brazil’s GDP, making it a powerhouse for both domestic and international businesses.
3. Cultural Diversity
• São Paulo is a melting pot of cultures. It has the largest Japanese population outside Japan, as well as significant Italian, Arab, and Portuguese communities. The city celebrates this diversity through festivals, food, and cultural institutions.
4. Home to Avenida Paulista
• Avenida Paulista is one of São Paulo’s most iconic streets, bustling with skyscrapers, cultural institutions, and vibrant energy.
