Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) are revolutionizing how the way the Life Sciences industry conducts business and handles data processing.
The European Commission is leading the discussions about the subject and has recently released the EU AI Act: the first regulation on artificial intelligence in the EU.
The new rules establish obligations for providers (who develop and supply AI systems) and users (who deploy AI systems) depending on the level of risk categories – unacceptable, high, limited, and minimal risk.
The EU AI Act imposes a wide range of obligations on the various actors in the lifecycle of a high-risk AI system, which includes requirements on data training and data governance, technical documentation, recordkeeping, technical robustness, transparency, human oversight, and cybersecurity.
