Tiger was stolen from his home in Seahorse Village during a break-in. He is about 7 years old, and is neutered (this means he cannot BREED) and microchipped. He also needs his medication for a heart condition. His family is desperate to find him. If anyone sees or finds him please call owner at 533.2965 or the HSGB at 727.2477. If found please bring to the shelter, no questions asked for his safe return. Please share this post.

EXCUSE ME, I WAS WONDERING IF YOU WOULD BE MY MOMMY OR DADDY?

Meet Amy! Her story is beyond heartbreaking, and she truly needs us all to step in and make things better for her. Amy had a family that she loved who one day took her out for a walk and tied her to a bench. They told her to be a good girl and that they loved her, then walked away; she waited and waited for so long but they never came back. Soon after, someone found her and took her to a nearby shelter. She was adopted quickly by a family who loved her and that she loved with all her heart. Unfortunately, due to personal issues they could no longer keep her, so they surrendered her to the Babylon Animal Shelter in July of 2019.

This stunning girl waits day after day for her family. She sits in her kennel wondering what she did wrong and why she spends most of her days and nights behind bars. Just imagine how sad it must be for her watching as other dogs come and go.

Abandoning dogs is a traumatic occurrence that happens far too often. The emotional stress that a dog feels when he or she is abandoned is very real, and it takes months of work, love and care to bring those dogs back to a state of happiness. Amy is a bit people-selective, and this is entirely understandable given she has been let down by people multiple times in her life. She requires slow introduction and some time to warm up to new people. The shelter is recommending a few meet and greets so Amy can get to know you, but once she warms up she is very loving and will never leave your side. Other than being slightly weary of new people, Amy presents zero behavior issues. This beautiful girl has been waiting a long time unnecessarily.

Many shelter dogs deal with loss of trust; If a dog has been given up by their family, they have sadly already learned to be untrusting of humans. They have been betrayed by their own pack by being dumped at a shelter. Just like with human relationships, maintaining trust requires communication and commitment. When it comes to dogs, they are one hundred percent committed to you, and they are also the most honest communicators you’ll ever meet.

Amy is an adorable 9-10 year young girl who loves belly rubs, playing with stuffies, and going outside to roll in the grass. She is a quiet and laid back girl who loves to cuddle and is completely housebroken. She loves treats, knows her basic commands, walks nicely on a leash, and is very playful for her age. In fact, you’d never know she’s a senior! Amy does have a slight thyroid condition and takes medication for it. She has a bit of a zaftig figure, so like most girls she is on a special diet, and is making great progress losing some weight; she has lost 10 pounds so far and will need to continue to lose some weight.

It’s heartbreaking to see any dog in a shelter, but seeing a senior dog looking up at you from their kennel is even more crushing because you know their chances of being adopted are low. Amy is truly a great dog who is very calm and very sweet! She is searching for a home with an experienced owner who will give her the love, time and patience she needs to decompress and learn to trust. A loving family that will give her the time she needs to readjust to home life, and warm up to strangers. She has no problem walking past other dogs and can be easily redirected if necessary, but she doesn’t like sharing her personal space with them. She would need to be your one and only princess, no other dogs and no cats. If you have children, households with children ages 13 and up are recommended.

Thousands of dogs turn up in shelters every day, and humans are often amazed at the emotional and physical resilience of these incredible animals. Any dog, rescued or not, will fill your life with love and slobbery kisses, but there is an intangible quality that comes with a rescue or shelter dog. How many times have you looked at your pup and felt an almost sacred bond with them? Or how often do you catch yourself talking about how your dog came into your life at the perfect moment? Once you’ve adopted a dog, you realize there’s some cosmic force that brought you together, and your life is much better because of it.

Amy is yet another heartbroken senior soul who is looking for someone to share her world with. Open your heart and give Amy the chance she truly deserves! She is worth multiple trips to the shelter and SO worthy of being loved and cherished for the rest of her life. Won’t you please consider stepping up to help this stunning beauty. At the very least, we ask that you help us get Amy noticed so she does not wait any longer.

Amy is asking for nothing more than a warm place to call home and a loving family to call her own. In return, she will give you more love and loyalty than you could ever ask for. Make an appointment to meet her, you are sure to fall in love!

Photos of adoption dogs and puppies! (Most) photos by Patricia Vazquez.

We make an effort to keep the photos of our beautiful animals up-to-date. However, that is not always possible. Please also stop by the BHS and visit all the dogs available for adoption.

In order to adopt a dog from the BHS, you must come in and complete an adoption form. You must have a fenced-in yard. The adoption fee of $40.00 for adult dogs and $50.00 puppies covers first vaccines and spaying/neutering. If you are off-island or out-of-country, please call the Shelter at (242) 323-5138 for assistance with adoptions.

Adoption forms can also be found here: http://www.bahamashumanesociety.com/how-to-adopt/
