2014 WEDDING TRENDS
WEDDING THEMES reflect the opulent return to crystal, candelabra, glitter and glitz brought back by the GREAT GATSBY and PBS' hit DOWNTON ABBEY. Brides looking for a more natural setting can find inspiration from the "Woodland Weddings" featured by theKnot.com in which “rustic and natural are mixed with sophistication and glam" in which "lots of lush greenery" is placed with "pops of sparkle and bling."
CAKES are returning to the traditional round shapes after a decade of square tiers on cake tables everywhere. Instead of the smooth surface of glistening frosting, more cakes are sporting textured surfaces that reflect the appliqués adorning the bridal gown. Just as gowns are carrying more beading and jewels, so are cakes. Metallic frostings, glitter trims and ombre shaded frosting carrying the color theme of the wedding are being seen.
RECEPTION - some are no longer 3 hour events. According to theKnot.com more and more couples are "opting for all night weddings that last hours on end." Some receptions start in one location and end in another as "couples change venue style and vibe to keep the party flowing."
GUEST LIST are shrinking. The average wedding is expected to be 100-125 guests. This allows the couple to stretch their budgets to provide a more elegant event for a smaller number of friends and family.
