A look back at a special evening with the Rotary Club of Old Fort. 💙

Some Rotary meetings leave you with information. Others leave you with something to think about long after the meeting ends.

Our recent Membership Month meeting did both!

We were privileged to welcome Mrs. Patrice Taylor, CEO of Hephizibah HR Training & Development, for an engaging discussion on “More Fellowship, More Change” and the role strong relationships play in making our service projects even more effective.

Her conversation around emotional intelligence, her M.O.R.E. acronym, and the importance of looking inward challenged us to consider not just what we contribute, but the impact we have on the people around us.

Two questions in particular stayed with us:

What do others become because of me?
What is my legacy?

And as if the evening wasn’t already meaningful enough, we had the privilege of welcoming Shanae Smith as the newest member of the Rotary Club of Old Fort. 🎉

Every new member brings fresh energy, ideas and perspective but more importantly, another person committed to the spirit of Service Above Self.

Belief isn't when things are going well. Belief is when it doesn't look anything like the vision you imagined — and you believe anyway.

That is the kind of belief that sustains great leadership. Not the belief that shows up when circumstances are favorable, but the belief that holds steady when the path looks nothing like the plan. “You can’t tame what you don’t name.”

That was my challenge to the teachers and administrators of C. V. Bethel Senior High School during my presentation on Emotional Intelligence at their Professional Development Seminar.

Research suggests that while 90–95% of people believe they are self-aware, only about 10–15% actually are.

That gap matters.

Self-awareness is the non-negotiable first stop on the road to self-leadership. If I cannot identify my emotions, triggers, values, strengths and blind spots, I cannot effectively manage them. And from that foundation, every other dimension of emotional intelligence is developed.

We wrapped up the session with this truth:

The title “teacher” is not proof of leadership. Influence is.

Leadership shows up in our ability to build trust and positively influence our students, colleagues and leaders through learned and intentionally practiced emotional intelligence skills.

Because after all…

“People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”

✨ More fellowship. More change. More impact.

Last night’s Rotary meeting was an especially meaningful one as we continued our Membership Month with an engaging and thought-provoking conversation led by Patrice Taylor, CEO of Hephzibah Human Capital Solutions

Speaking on “More Fellowship, More Change: How Building Strong Relationships Within Rotary Can Enhance the Effectiveness of Service Projects,” Patrice challenged us to look inward and consider how the relationships we build within Rotary can ultimately strengthen the way we serve our communities.

From emotional intelligence to her memorable M.O.R.E. acronym, the discussion encouraged us to think differently about how we show up every day and to ask ourselves two powerful questions:

What do others become because of me?
What is my legacy?

And then came another special moment for our Rotary family. ❤️

We were proud to officially welcome our newest member, Shanae Smith, into the Rotary Club of Old Fort.

Inductions are always special because they represent new energy, new ideas and new opportunities to serve. But at RCOF, they also mean welcoming someone new into our Rotary family.
