MARINE FORECAST FOR THE BAHAMAS ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY AT 6:00 A.M. EDT, MONDAY, AUGUST 31, 2026, FOR THE NEXT 24 HOURS. NEXT FORECAST: 12:00 P.M. EDT.

• Near Gale Warning (28–33 knots) remains in effect for the Southeast Bahamas.
⛈️ SEVERE THUNDERSTORM RISK:
Slight to moderate risk for isolated strong to severe thunderstorms across portions of the Northern & Northwest Bahamas this afternoon. Strong gusty winds, frequent lightning, heavy downpours and waterspout activity are possible.
🌊 RIP CURRENTS:
High risk along eastern and southern shorelines of the Southeast Bahamas. Slight to moderate risk elsewhere. Beachgoers/swimmers in the Southeast Bahamas are strongly advised to refrain from entering the water; exercise caution elsewhere.
🌦️ GENERAL SITUATION:
Tropical moisture and a mid-level disturbance will produce cloudy conditions, scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms across the northern half today. The Central Bahamas will remain relatively settled for now, while conditions deteriorate across the Southeast Bahamas as moisture from the remnants of Dolly moves in. Gusty winds, heavy showers and rough seas are expected, with occasional strong gusts in the Southeast.
OUTLOOK:
Wet and unsettled conditions are expected from late Tuesday as a tropical wave and associated moisture increase the risk of flooding and severe weather. Drier conditions return toward the end of the work week as high pressure builds.
⚓ NORTHERN BAHAMAS
Grand Bahama, Abaco, Bimini & adjacent waters
ADVISORY: Expect gusty winds, higher seas and reduced visibility in or near heavy showers/thunderstorms.
💨 Winds: E to SE ≤10 kt, becoming light/variable at times.
🌊 Seas: 2 ft or less nearshore, building to 4 ft offshore.
🌊 Gulf Stream: 2–4 ft; SE to S ≤10 kt, shifting N to NE this afternoon/evening.
🌊 Swells: No significant swell.
🌧️ Weather: 30–40% chance of showers/thunderstorms this morning, increasing to 50–70% by early afternoon.

New Providence, Andros, Berry Islands, Eleuthera & adjacent waters
ADVISORY: Expect gusty winds, higher seas and reduced visibility in or near heavy showers/thunderstorms.
💨 Winds: E to SE around 10 kt, becoming light/variable by afternoon.
🌊 Seas: 3 ft or less nearshore, building to 4 ft offshore.
🌊 Swells: No significant swell.

🌊 Seas: 2–4 ft, building to 3–5 ft late tonight.
🌊 Swells: Light E to SE swell on Atlantic waters.

Inagua, Acklins, Crooked Island, Mayaguana, Ragged Island & adjacent waters
ADVISORY: Near Gale Warning (28–33 knots) remains in effect. Small craft operators are advised to seek safe harbour and remain in port. Expect gusty winds, higher seas and reduced visibility in or near heavy showers/thunderstorms.
💨 Winds: E to SE 15–25 kt, with gusts near gale force possible, especially south of Inagua and near the Turks & Caicos Islands.
🌊 Seas: 3–5 ft nearshore, building to 6–9 ft offshore/Atlantic waters.
🌊 Swells: Moderate to large easterly swell on Atlantic waters.
🌧️ Weather: 30–40% chance of isolated showers/thunderstorms today, increasing to 40–60% late evening into tonight.

1️⃣ Remnants of Dolly near Puerto Rico/Virgin Islands: 20% chance of formation over 7 days, near 0% over 48 hours. Regardless of development, it will contribute to heavy showers and thunderstorms across The Bahamas beginning mid-week.
2️⃣ AL97 – Northern Gulf of Mexico: 70% chance of tropical cyclone formation over the next 48 hours and 7 days. A short-lived tropical depression or tropical storm could form before reaching the Upper Texas/southwestern Louisiana coast tonight or Tuesday.
