SPECIAL WEATHER NOTES
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM RISK
A moderate risk exists for a few isolated strong to severe thunderstorms across portions of the Northern, Northwest and Southeast Bahamas through tonight. These storms could produce strong gusty winds, frequent lightning, heavy downpours and waterspout activity.
Mariners should remain vigilant, monitor official weather warnings and be prepared to seek safe harbour if conditions worsen.
FLOODING RISK
A moderate risk of localized flooding exists across portions of the Northern and Northwest Bahamas, particularly in low-lying, flood-prone and urban areas during periods of heavy rainfall.
RIP CURRENTS
A slight risk exists along Atlantic waters across the Bahamas. Swimmers are advised to exercise caution, especially in the Southeast Bahamas.
KEY MESSAGES
Troughing and lingering moisture will support showers and thunderstorms across portions of the Northern and Northwest Bahamas, with most activity shifting northward and away from the area by tonight.
An upper-level disturbance will bring additional showers and thunderstorms to the southern islands later this afternoon and tonight.
Unsettled conditions are expected to continue through Thursday, followed by a brief period of deep-layer ridging on Friday.
A frontal boundary approaching the Northern Bahamas on Saturday will bring renewed showers and thunderstorms, spreading into the Northwest Bahamas by late Saturday into Sunday.
The boundary is expected to stall across the Northwest and Central Bahamas into early next week, maintaining unsettled conditions.
Strong high pressure building to the north will significantly strengthen winds across the island chain from Sunday through the middle of next week.
