Ignited is an event series brand based on Michelle Hanna's personality, ambitions and life experience as a nurse. Realizing that her generation would soon be retired from active nursing, thereby leaving ,a large void of healthcare professionals in the Bahamas as well as globally by 2022, she found it necessary to cause to "catch fire "a new cadre of nurses by shifting their perspectives to take new action towards better results, reconnect to thier why and transform the way they show up. Her goal is to transform her passion into an entity that would enable nurses to be well fitted to their personal measurements thereby promoting the power to positively influence nursing at the bedside, boardroom and business. Additionally her goal is to bring solutions to the challenges of recruitment and retention of nurses in the Bahamas. Michelle will bring a unique perspective to audiences by creating events for nurses in ambient environments away from work and classroom settings that would foster inclusivity, inspire conversation, make space for debate and give voice to those less heard. It is an opportunity for nurses to connect, ignite their career forward and advance the leading conversations across healthcare. Through local and international partnership and collaboration, Ignited Events aim to be the best online and off line experiences for nurses.

Eltoya McPhee is a dedicated and highly skilled Registered Nurse with 20 years of experience in public health, clinical care and community service in The Bahamas. Guided by the belief that “the health of a nation is the wealth of a nation,” she chose nursing as a way to make a difference in the lives of individuals and communities.

She began working at Price Busters at the age of 15 and remained there for nine years before transitioning into her nursing internship. She graduated from nursing school in 2006 and has since built a diverse career within the Ministry of Health and Wellness. With a strong commitment to serving underserved communities, she has spent more than 13 years working in the Family Islands. She currently serves as a Nursing Officer II at the Exuma Healthcare Centre.

Over the course of her career, Eltoya has worked in several healthcare settings, including the Flamingo Gardens Clinic, Prison Services, the COVID Centre, and the Training Unit. These experiences have allowed her to contribute to different areas of healthcare delivery and community health.

Committed to professional development, Eltoya specialized in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing in 2017 and Addiction Studies in 2024. She is also a member of the Bahamas Nurses Union and the International Society of Substance Use Professionals (ISSUP).

In addition to her clinical work, she is an educator and mentor. She has been a certified Youth Leader with the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture for more than a decade. Since 2023, she has served as the local facilitator for the Bahamas Nursing Cadets Program, helping to guide and encourage young people interested in pursuing careers in nursing.

Looking ahead, Eltoya plans to pursue a Master’s in Nursing Education to further contribute to the development of the nursing profession. Outside of work, she enjoys public speaking and traveling and remains a strong advocate for mental health and wellness. Her faith continues to guide her, and she gives God the glory for her strength, achievements and success.

Meet Registered Nurse Samantha Evans, whose career journey has been defined by a deep commitment to community health and remote care.

Serving populations at the Deadman’s Cay Clinic, Simms Community Clinic, and currently at the Moore’s Island Clinic, she has developed a profound understanding of the unique healthcare challenges facing our archipelago.

Across these diverse settings, education has remained central to her daily practice. She has consistently delivered compassionate care while providing vital health education and instruction to patients and local communities.

Driven by a passion to elevate healthcare delivery on a broader scale, she is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), specializing in Nursing Education at Walden University. Building upon the foundational training she received while earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of The Bahamas in 2017, this advanced program will equip her with contemporary pedagogical strategies, curriculum design techniques, and evidence-based assessment methods tailored specifically to the needs of modern nursing students.

She is eager to bring her firsthand field experience from the frontline clinics of The Bahamas into the classroom. Her core aspiration is to mentor and inspire incoming nursing students, instilling in them the rigorous standards of clinical excellence and community-minded compassion upon which our country’s healthcare system relies.

Meet Nichelle Thomas, a registered nurse and Certified Perioperative Nurse whose career reflects a steadfast commitment to clinical excellence, nursing scholarship, leadership and service.

Nichelle earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of The Bahamas in Fall 2017. Following the completion of her undergraduate nursing education, she began her professional career at Princess Margaret Hospital in Nassau, where she initially served as a staff nurse in the Medical-Surgical Department for one year. She later transitioned to the Surgical Services Department, gaining experience in both the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) and the Main Operating Theatre. Nichelle also spent one year working in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), an area of nursing she considers her second professional love, aside from perioperative nursing. Nichelle currently works as a Perioperative Nurse at Rand Memorial Hospital in Freeport, Grand Bahama.

Her commitment to service and professional development extends beyond the workplace. Nichelle is a member of the illustrious Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated; the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN); the Nurses Association of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas; the American Nurses Association; and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Graduate Nursing Student Academy. She previously served as the Graduate Nursing Student Academy Liaison for Illinois State University’s Mennonite College of Nursing.

Nichelle is currently pursuing a PhD in Nursing Science at Illinois State University’s Mennonite College of Nursing. Her doctoral research focuses on nurse well-being in Bahamian hospital settings, specifically exploring nurses’ perceptions of the external and individual factors that affect their well-being. Through her research, she hopes to provide evidence to inform nursing practice, workforce policies and initiatives that promote nurse well-being, while strengthening the sustainability and retention of the Bahamian nursing workforce.

Nichelle’s long-term goal is to contribute to the continued development and advancement of the nursing profession in The Bahamas by helping to strengthen nursing education, practice, research, leadership and policy. She is committed to advancing the profession in ways that align with modern international standards while remaining responsive to the unique needs of the Bahamian healthcare system.

She has received recognition for her academic achievement, leadership and service. Her honors include being a current recipient of The Bahamas National Tuition Scholarship, the Betty Rosendahl Wagner Endowed Scholarship for 2024–2025 and being a 2019 recipient of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas National Youth Award in Leadership and Community Service.

Nichelle chose nursing because she wanted a professional career in which she could touch, change and save lives. As her career has evolved, that purpose has expanded from caring for individual patients to advocating for the nurses who provide that care and helping to shape the future of the profession.

Beyond her professional and academic pursuits, Nichelle values spending quality time with her family and enjoys traveling and shopping. For Nichelle, nursing is more than a profession; it is an opportunity to serve, influence change, advance the profession and contribute meaningfully to the health and well-being of individuals, nurses and communities throughout The Bahamas.

Meet Sylvy Cooper, Senior Trained Clinical Nurse with the Department of Public Health, serving in Fresh Creek, Andros.

She graduated from the Bahamas School of Nursing in January 1997. Throughout her career, she has served on several islands, including Abaco, where she worked for 21 years, as well as San Salvador, Eleuthera, Bimini and Exuma.

Nurse Cooper holds a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacology, along with certificates in psychology, first aid and food safety. She is also an International Air Transport Association (IATA) Certified Trainer.

She takes great pride in her strong work ethic and dedication to her patients. As a cancer survivor living with epilepsy, she personally understands what it is like to be on the receiving end of medical care. For Sylvy, nursing has been especially rewarding because it allows her to witness the recovery and healing of those in her care.

Among her many accomplishments, Nurse Cooper is the author of the book “Unshaken by the Storm.” The book describes how her faith carried her through abuse and illness. Its official launch is scheduled for July 9, 2026.

She is currently working toward becoming a certified counsellor, with a focus on supporting individuals who have experienced abuse and other difficult life circumstances.

In her spare time, she enjoys reading, writing and singing, particularly in church. She is an active member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and the Cancer Society. She is also the proud mother of two adult children—a son and a daughter—and a devoted grandmother to her grandson.

Meet Robin Pierre. Robin graduated from The University of The Bahamas on May 27, 2026, earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. This accomplishment represents years of dedication, sacrifice, faith, perseverance and determination.

Before becoming a graduate nurse, Robin worked as a cashier at Super Value Food Store – Cable Beach. As a single mother of three, she is passionate about inspiring others to pursue their dreams despite life’s challenges. Her return to school reflects her commitment to education, service and personal growth. She strives to be a positive example for her children and future generations by breaking generational cycles and proving that determination and hard work can overcome obstacles. Robin is proudly a first-generation college graduate.

For Robin, nursing is more than a career—it is a calling. She chose this profession because of her love for helping others during their most vulnerable moments and her desire to make a meaningful difference through compassionate, safe and quality care for patients and their families.

Her goal is to continue advancing her nursing knowledge and skills through further education and specialized training. She aspires to pursue advanced nursing qualifications, provide exceptional patient care and eventually serve in leadership roles within the healthcare profession.

Robin’s commitment to service extends beyond the classroom. Through her participation in community activities with The Indaba Project, she supports health education initiatives while continuously developing personally and professionally.

As Robin eagerly awaited the start of her nursing internship at Princess Margaret Hospital in July 2026, she experienced an unexpected and devastating loss. On June 15, 2026, a massive fire completely destroyed her family home, resulting in the loss of everything she and her family owned.

This tragedy has placed an overwhelming emotional and financial burden on her family as they work to rebuild their lives. Despite this hardship, Robin continues to show gratitude, strength and hope.

At this time, any support would be deeply appreciated. Assistance with clothing, food, temporary housing, household necessities, or financial contributions toward securing an apartment would make a tremendous difference during this difficult season for this future Registered Nurse.

Meet Dantae C. Fowler, a 2026 graduate of the University of The Bahamas College of Nursing and Allied Health.

He earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, completing a journey rooted in faith, perseverance, service and a desire to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Dantae’s favorite quote, “Serve faithfully where God has placed you, until He reveals where He is calling you next,” is by Canon Ward.

For the past four years, Dantae has worked at Doctors Hospital, serving as a Patient Experience Representative, Patient Care Technician and Nursing Intern. These roles gave him valuable hands-on experience in patient care and further strengthened his passion for nursing.

Dantae says he chose nursing because it combines science, compassion, advocacy and service. It allows him to support individuals and families during times of vulnerability, healing and hope. To him, nursing is more than a career; it is an opportunity to care for and serve others with excellence and respect.

His future goals include gaining experience as an Intensive Care Unit or Emergency Medicine nurse, areas that align with his passion for critical care and helping patients during some of life’s most challenging moments. He also hopes to pursue advanced education and certification to become a Nurse Practitioner and expand his scope of practice.

Dantae’s commitment to service also extends to ministry and leadership within the Anglican Church. He currently serves as a Vestry Member, Junior Priest Warden, Lay Minister and Chalice Bearer, Youth Director, Synod Delegate and Head of Prayer and Evangelism. Through these roles, he has been able to serve others, encourage spiritual growth and support the life of the Church. He is also actively discerning a call to ordained ministry.

Throughout his nursing education and ministry, Dantae has learned that true service requires compassion, humility, resilience and faith. These values have guided him through both challenges and successes, shaping the person and healthcare professional he is becoming.

In July 2026, Dantae will begin his Nursing Internship with the Department of Public Health at Princess Margaret Hospital, an exciting step as he transitions into professional nursing practice.

In his own words, “My faith remains the foundation of everything I do and continues to guide me as I begin this next chapter of my life and career. Whether serving at the bedside, ministering within the Church, or discerning where God may be calling me in the future, I remain committed to serving others with compassion, humility and excellence.”

Meet Debbie Simeon, a newly licensed Trained Clinical Nurse currently deployed at Princess Margaret Hospital.

Debbie graduated from the PHA Academy Trained Clinical Nursing Programme on April 10, 2026, as Valedictorian. She also earned the distinction of Program Top Achiever in Academic Excellence.

She is Basic Life Support (BLS) certified and continues to build her clinical skills and experience in patient care delivery.

Meet Alaxi Moss-Green, a licensed, trained clinical nurse currently assigned to the Female Ward at Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre.

She graduated from the PHA Academy Trained Clinical Nurse Programme on April 10, 2026, earning awards for excellence and top achiever in clinical practice, along with special credit.

Nurse Moss-Green’s healthcare journey began in 2010 as a part-time data entry clerk at a private clinic. That same year, she became certified as an American Medical Technologist Phlebotomist and Patient Care Technician. In 2011, she moved into a full-time role as a Medical Assistant and Phlebotomist, gaining five years of hands-on experience. She later earned a career diploma as a Pharmacy Technician in 2014 and completed 12-Lead Electrocardiogram interpretation training in 2022.

She joined Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre in 2016 as a Patient Care Assistant III and was promoted to Patient Care Assistant II a year later. She worked on the Robert Smith Ward for two years before serving eight years in the Child and Adolescent Unit, where she provided compassionate care to young patients. During this time, she received the Patient Care Assistant Award in 2022 and 2024. In June 2024, she earned an in-service scholarship with full salary support and began training as a Trained Clinical Nurse.

Alaxi is passionate about nursing for its impact on lives through compassionate care and advocacy. She aspires to become a travel nurse, broadening her experience while serving diverse patient populations.

She is also an entrepreneur, specializing in event décor and party setups for adults and children. Outside of work, she enjoys decorating, cooking, traveling and reading, and cherishes time with her husband and 9-year-old son.
