The Coco Plum (Chrysobalanus icaco) is a common shrub or bushy tree that is native to The Bahamas. There are 2 main varieties, The Coastal and Inland varieties, The Coastal variety can grow up 9.8 feet, and the Inland variety up to 19.7 feet. Leaf colors range from green to light red. The bark is greyish or reddish brown, with white specks. The flowers are small, white, in clusters, appearing in late spring. In late summer it bears fruit in clusters. The fruit of the coastal variety are usually circular pale-yellow with rose blush or dark-purple in color, while that of the inland variety is oval, and dark-purple. The coco plum fruit is surely edible, possessing a sweet flavor and can be eaten raw out of hand or also be used in preserves such as jams and jellies. The seed of the plant is also edible as it has high oil content and gives a hard nutty flavor, but somewhat bland. The Coco Plum sometimes called β€˜porkfat’ or Paradise Plum also possess hypoglycemic values, meaning it can help treat type 2 diabetes. The coastal form is highly tolerant of salt, so it is often planted to stabilize beach edges and prevent erosion, and is a commonly desirable ornamental plant, commonly used as a hedge because of its horizontal spreading characteristics. The Coco plum is an important food source for the White Crown Pigeon, an important specie of bird in The Bahamas. The Coco plum can be propagated by seed or by cuttings.

The Black Ironwood (Krugiodendron ferreum) is a dense, hardwood tree, a part of The Buckhorn Family and is native To The Bahamas. The Black Ironwood got its name for its hard wood, some of the densest woods on earth, similar to that of the Lignum Vitae. It easily resists diseases and termites. Black Ironwood Is also called Leadwood because when it is cut the aroma given off is nearly identical to the smell of molten lead. In some parts of The Caribbean it is still used for tools and for making weapons, such as bows and arrows. Because of its density it takes a high polish and is favored by turners. The sapwood is light brown, streaked, with the heartwood orange brown to dark brown. The fruit look similar to dark M&Ms and is indeed edible, having a sweet zesty flavor similar to the hog plum but not as fleshy. It’s a small bushy tree growing 20 to 30 feet. It flowers in late spring to early summer, with ripe fruits coming about in late summer. The fruit can be used to make jam, jelly, wine, or eaten raw out of hand, the bark and root decoction also can be used as a remedy for toothache and gum issues.
The Black Ironwood, is at stock at SLN

The papaya is a large, tree-like plant, with a single stem growing from 5 to 10 m (16 to 33 ft) tall, with spirally arranged leaves confined to the top of the trunk. The lower trunk is conspicuously scarred where leaves and fruit were borne. The leaves are large, 50–70 cm (20–28 in) in diameter

The papaya fruit is very low in calories (just 39 calories/100 g) and contains no cholesterol; however, it is a rich source ofnutrients, minerals, and vitamins.

Papayas contain soft, easily digestible flesh with a good amount of soluble dietary fiber that helps to have normal bowel movements; thereby reducing constipation problems.

Fresh, ripe papaya is one of the fruits with the highest vitamin-C content (provides 61.8 mg or about 103% of DRI, more than that of in oranges, or lemons). Research studies have shown that vitamin C has many important functions like free radicals scavenging, immune booster, and anti-inflammatory actions.

It is also an excellent source of Vitamin-A

Papaya fruit is also rich in many essential B-complex vitamins such as Folic acid, pyridoxine (vitamin B-6), riboflavin, and thiamin (vitamin B-1). These vitamins are essential in the sense that body requires them from external sources to replenish and play a vital role in metabolism.

Fresh papaya also contains a good amount of potassium (257 mg per 100 g) and calcium. Potassium is an important component of cell and body fluids and helps controlling heart rate and blood pressure countering effects of sodium.

Papaya seeds have been proven natural remedy for many ailments in the traditional medicines. The seeds can be found application as anti-inflammatory, anti-parasitic, and analgesic, and used to treat stomachache, and ringworm infections.

The coconut tree (Cocos nucifera) is a large palm, growing up to 3 98 ft tall, with leaves 13–20 ft long, with a very smooth trunk . Coconuts are generally classified into two general types: tall and dwarf. On very good land, a tall coconut palm tree can yield up to 75 fruits per year, but more often yields less than 30, because of poor maintenance. Given proper coconut palms produce their first fruit in six to ten years, it takes 15 – 20 years to reach peak
