Proud to share that the Rigsar–Vajra Joint Venture (RVJV) has been awarded the airfield construction contract for Gelephu International Airport. Building on the earthworks we're completing, we'll now deliver the 3,000 meter runway, taxiways, aircraft parking, airfield lighting and Instrument Landing System. We thank GMCA for their trust and look forward to helping connect Bhutan with the world. 🇧🇹 ✈️

A major step forward for Gelephu International Airport.

GMCA has awarded the airfield construction contract to Rigsar-Vajra Joint Venture (RVJV), the same contractor currently completing the site's earthworks. The contract covers a 3,000-metre runway built for wide-bodied aircraft, along with taxiways, aircraft parking, airfield lighting, and an Instrument Landing System to support safe operations even in poor visibility.

With earthworks nearing completion, construction of the airfield itself can now begin, alongside the Passenger Terminal Building, ahead of the airport's planned opening in December 2029. At peak, the project is expected to employ more than 800 workers.

This airport will connect Bhutan with the world year-round, and this contract is one of the final steps in making that a reality.

Hearts of 108: The Rigsar Family

Today is Drup Tshezhi, the sacred anniversary of Lord Buddha’s first sermon. It is the auspicious morning the Wheel of Dharma was first set in motion, unleashing a stream of wisdom that has illuminated our valleys and guided our lives for over 2,500 years. In Bhutan, this is a day of profound stillness, prayer and merit-making, where every action is anchored in devotion.

On this holy day, the family of Rigsar Construction stepped forward together.

Most of us know Rigsar by the physical landmarks they have raised across the Kingdom. They are a team intimately familiar with blueprints, concrete and the heavy lifting required to build a modern nation. But today, they came simply as a family bound by a shared faith.

Stepping forward on the very day the Buddha shared his first teachings to uplift humanity, the Rigsar family chose to make an offering towards one Jangchub Chorten under Project 108 at the Gelephu Mindfulness City.

For a team that spends every day shaping the physical landscape of our country, this offering is their collective heart cast in stone. It is their way of taking the labor of their hands and transforming it into a permanent prayer for all sentient beings and global peace.
