A foreign man selling brooms was allegedly stopped by young men who demanded to see his papers. Instead, he was reportedly robbed and attacked with a knife.

Then something unexpected happened.

Two South African men stepped in. They confronted the alleged attackers and asked a simple but powerful question:

'Are you the police? Who gave you the right to ask people for papers?'

They also challenged the community for standing by while an innocent person was being attacked.
