I just finished up an epic 2-day mastermind retreat in Tulum, Mexico with my top affiliate partners for Impacting Millions.
We spent two days learning, connecting and hanging out by the pool and on the beach!
If you’ve ever dreamed about running your own mastermind event, here are some ideas to make it a great experience for your attendees.
💡 1 -- FIND WAYS TO LEVERAGE THE COLLECTIVE BRILLIANCE OF THE GROUP
The best masterminds are thoughtfully curated, where people have to apply or be invited to get a seat.
When this happens, you know that everyone in the group is a rockstar – and you can learn something from each of them!
At my masterminds, I always have activities that engage the whole group. For example, at our recent retreat we had everyone do a 3-minute share about the #1 business tactic or strategy they used in 2019.
The shares included: how to maintain 90% profit margins (this mastermind attendee is generating over $1 million in revenue per year!), how to turn your existing clients into referral machines, and how to use “best friend marketing” to turn prospects into customers.
We then voted on the shares – and the winner did a 20-minute presentation the next day for the group.
😉 2 -- KEEP IT SIMPLE… and avoid content overload!
Mastermind leaders sometimes make the mistake of cramming in as much information as they can into a retreat. From an attendee perspective, it’s overwhelming!
I remember attending masterminds where there’d be random presentations about all the latest, shiny business tactics. I’d feel like I needed to buy five different courses to go deeper – and figure out how to actually implement these things inside of my business. Rather than helping me, they distracted me from what was already working for me!
That’s why I have a theme for every mastermind event, allowing us to go super deep on one major topic. I’m also mindful about selecting topics that apply to most people (if not everyone) in the group.
At my October retreat in Savannah, Georgia, we talked about nurturing and leveraging superfans to grow your business. For my upcoming February retreat in Puerto Rico, the theme is creating a more profitable and efficient business. Who wouldn’t want to learn how to do that?
I also build in blocks of implementation time, so that people aren’t just leaving the event with an endless to-do list. Instead, they’re prioritizing what actions they want to take, getting things done, and removing things from their plate during our time together.
😎 3 -- MAKE IT FUN!
While people join masterminds to grow their business, they also crave meaningful and fun experiences.
That’s why in Tulum, we held our afternoon mastermind sessions inside the pool, surrounded by palm trees. In the evening, there was karaoke and dancing late into the night. 🌴🌴
When you get outside of the conference room, you can create unique experiences that people will treasure for a lifetime!

I hope these ideas got your wheels turning about how to create epic mastermind retreats of your own!
