Lane 5 Swimming was founded in 2020 after years of conceptualization by competitive swimmers who wanted to prove that Olympians can be made at any age – that swim history didn’t necessarily dictate the outcome of a swimmer’s performance. Lane 5 Swimming believes that optimal swimming performance can be fostered for any age, at any time through program specificity catered for the individuals needs.
Conceptualized in 2015, Lane 5 Swimming co-founders Boitshepo Setlhake and Madome Mathiba (then competitive swimmers for the University of Botswana) realized that the already limited swimming fraternity only catered for swimmers who started from a very young age. The already established swimming institutions also implemented international programs that factor poorly with the limited number of pools, coaching staff and overall swimming interest in Botswana. Having identified the need for a robust swimming program specific to Botswana; Lane 5 co-founders set out to gain experience under the watchful eye of Debbie Rouse and Craig Rouse of Gaborone Aquatic Centre. Through thousands of hours spent instructing and coaching from ages 2 to 70 and numerous courses in swimming (American Swim Coaches Association, African Aquatics), Boitshepo Setlhake and Madome Mathiba were finally ready to cater to the swimming market and Lane 5 Swimming was born. Leading up to the 2020 launch, Lane 5 Swimming has produced 7 national team caliber swimmers who have toured for Botswana in 2018, 2019 and 2020 and promises many more through highly specialized training
programs specific to the individuals needs.
