Quick question: is Botswana making it on its clothing and apparel industry?
Botswana's clothing and apparel industry is striving but faces a tough climb.
In short: Not yet, but there's potential.
The sector is resilient and important for jobs, especially for women. However, it's struggling with fierce competition from cheap imports, high production costs, and declining exports to major markets like the US (AGOA). While there's a growing local design scene and a focus on regional markets, significant challenges in efficiency, skills, and market access need to be overcome for Botswana to truly "make it" in the global clothing and apparel landscape. There are government and industry efforts to support growth, but it's an ongoing process.
