Today, Botswana Oil Limited (BOL) continued its capacity-building programme for its transporters through its Citizen Economic Empowerment Programme. The forum focused on strengthening compliance, operational readiness, and business sustainability, equipping transporters with practical knowledge on supplier accreditation, industry standards, risk management, HSSEQ requirements, and access to off-take opportunities within the fuel and petrochemical supply chain. In his opening remarks, BOL Senior Manager-HSSEQ, Mr. Ronny Orlando, indicated that compliance is not merely a requirement but a critical enabler of sustainable business growth and the security of fuel supply.

Facilitated by industry experts Mr. Michael Zano of SHERQ Innovations and Mr. Tomeletso Rodgers Rasetapa of Integrated Gas and Oil Solutions (IGOS), the training highlighted the importance of building safe, compliant, and professionally managed transport operations. Discussions covered SQAS-AFRICA readiness, emergency preparedness, driver competency, fleet management, journey management planning, vehicle maintenance, performance monitoring, and the role of employees in driving business success. Participants were encouraged to adopt a culture of continual improvement and proactive risk management to remain competitive in the industry.

Closing the session, BOL Senior Manager - Supply Planning, Mr. Tebogo Erick, reiterated that compliance is mandatory in the oil and gas sector and that failure to meet industry standards can result in significant business costs and lost opportunities. He encouraged transporters to focus on the total cost of ownership, operational efficiency, and strategic fleet deployment.

Through CEEP, BOL remains committed to empowering citizen transporters with the skills, knowledge, and opportunities needed to build sustainable businesses while supporting Botswana's national mandate of ensuring security of petroleum product supply.

At the 9th Strategic HR Conference, Botswana Oil's Chief Human Capital Officer, Mr. Tshepo Ramaselwana, opened his presentation with a powerful question: "Before you deploy a single AI tool, ask yourself, do your people feel safe enough to change?โ€

Speaking on Human-Centered Leadership in the Age of AI, he reminded delegates that while technology is changing the workplace, people must remain at the centre of that change. He highlighted the growing fear of job losses, the frustration employees feel when decisions are made without them, and the importance of creating workplaces where people feel safe to learn, ask questions, and try new things.

Mr. Ramaselwana called on organisations to move away from fear and towards learning, curiosity, and collaboration. He stressed that leaders must support their people with the right tools, training, and opportunities to grow. Drawing on the spirit of Ubuntu, he emphasized that respect, shared growth, and a sense of belonging are key to building successful organisations in the age of AI.

His message was clear: AI is not the disruption. The real challenge is whether leaders choose to keep people at the centre of the journey.
