Following her prestigious win of the 2025 ANNA Award and a residency in, Naledi Maifala will showcase a new body of work in a dedicated solo booth at RMB Latitudes Art Fair 2026, marking a significant milestone for Botswana’s contemporary art scene on the international stage.

In the collection "Now Is Enough", Naledi Maifala presents paintings that serve as visual anchors for the fleeting nature of presence. Prompted by the loss of her father in 2021, Maifala’s work turns toward the domestic and the rural, capturing her nephew’s first holiday at the farm.

Oteng Keabetswe Art investigates the psychological and emotional dimensions of migration, belonging, and the transition between rural and urban Southern Africa. Through geometrical fragmentation and layered forms in acrylic and charcoal, his work explores the internal journey that precedes physical movement. "The Journey Before Arrival" offers a sophisticated visual language of resilience, aspiration, and the ongoing search for place in a rapidly changing world.

Naledi Maifala Art’s latest collection serves as a poignant meditation on the necessity of presence. Inspired by family archives and the profound impact of personal loss, her work captures the ephemeral nature of shared moments. Through the lens of her nephew’s experiences on a rural farm, Maifala translates themes of curiosity, freedom, and joy into evocative acrylic compositions—reminding us that being present with loved ones is a vital act of preservation.

Beads, though small in scale, carry immense cultural weight and historical influence. In this featured series for RMB Latitudes 2026, Neo Matome explores the multifaceted history of beadwork—from prehistoric San ostrich eggshell adornments to the significance of beads as signifiers of status, spirituality, and wealth across the African continent.

Her work delves into the complex narratives of Venetian glass beads, examining their role in the transatlantic slave trade and their function as global currency. By reflecting on her recent visit to the Natural History Museum in Maputo, Mozambique, Ms. Matome considers how these influences have evolved from symbolic cultural markers to contemporary aesthetic expressions.

Experience this profound investigation into heritage and evolution at the ReCurate pavilion.

Keabetswe’s practice engages the psychological and emotional dimensions of migration, belonging, and becoming within contemporary African life. This body of work, ‘The Journey Before Arrival’, approaches migration as a gradual internal process that begins long before the physical departure.
