This month being about women in sport we thought we should focus on an upcoming female athlete. This week we take a look at professional volleyball player Tracy Chaba. Tracy started her volleyball career in 2004 as a Standard 6 pupil at Phatsimo Primary School in Francistown. She rose through the ranks from BISA, Kutlwano and National Team.

Some of her achievements include being awarded Best attacker & Most valuable player at the 2012 Mascom Awards; she won the same awards at the Zone 6 club championships. The 21 year old now plays in Algeria for Mechaal Baladiat Bejaia Volleyball Club (MB Bejaia), a top club that is currently defending the professional league title of that country this season. I wish her all the best!

Giving Your Child A Head Start

Want to give your children a head start on lifelong fitness and cut their risk of being overweight? One option may be to head to sign them up for sports.

If you encourage your child and set an example yourself, though, chances are a few sports will spark his or her interest. Fan the flame by taking your child to local sporting events and explaining how different games are played. It didn't take long for my son to find his bliss. At 2, Eric loved taking swimming classes. By 3, when I gave him the choice of going to the pool or playing at the park the water always won. By his fourth birthday he could swim basic freestyle and rudimentary butterfly. Eric is 8 now and he's still at it, the first one in the pool at the start of team practice and the last one out at the end. Not only does swimming bring him joy and keep him fit, but his teammates are also his best buds, and he's learned how to win (and lose) with dignity. By Cynthia Hanson from Parents Magazine

It's Throwback Thursday!

We take a look at the first Motswana to play professional football, Diphetogo 'Dipsy' Selolwane. Dipsy's career started at Gaborone United before finally venturing in to college and MLS football in the United States of America. From there he had a short stint in Denmark before taking the South Africa PSL by storm. He has played for Cape Town Santos, Jomo Cosmos, Ajax CapeTown, Super Sport and is currently plying his trade for Amatuks. Dipsy made his debut for the Zebras in 1999 and he rose to become a national icon. He received the Chairperson award at the BNSC Awards and is also a recipient of the Presidential Order of Meritorious Service. It is safe to say Dipsy’s exploits created demand in South Africa for Botswana players, whose talents had previously been overlooked.

We know that finding Saturday morning sports programs that are attractive to kids and at the same time affordable to their parents has been difficult in this country, hence the introduction of WOSA - Wellness Options Sports Academy-. We are supporting early physical activity for kids by providing them with an opportunity to participate in sport programs from as young as four.

Time for some thursdaythrowback.

This week we look at our best athlete at the Olympics , Nijel Amos. At London 2012, 18-year-old Nijel Amos won a silver medal in the 800m and became the third fastest 800m runners of all time. Amos is now a world junior champion, world junior record holder and Olympic silver medallist.

Now consider this, just 6 months prior to the Olympics Amos was coached by his geography teacher at Tutume McConnel College! His silver medal at the 2012 Olympics was the revelation of our sports arena. Noe we say 'Yes we can'.

Good morning. We had another wonderful session this past Saturday. The kids had fun and we had fun too. Wellness Options Sports Academy is driven by qualified and experienced sports administrators and coaches with qualifications in sport management, Physical Education and coaching.

Tommorrow morning we head to our favourite place (sports grounds) with our favourite people (sports kids). We are sure its going to be as fun as last week. We read somewhere that 'talent along is not enough for one to excel. It has to be coupled with dedicated practise in order for one to be the best'. That is why we are offering kids the opportunity to practice under the watchful eye of our team of experts.

It's Throwback Thursday!

This week we dedicate it to Botswana's finest athlete, Amantle Montsho. Montsho started running in school, at age 12, at the Bonatla Primary School in Maun. In 2004, she competed in the Athens Games as the country’s first female Olympian. She did not advance beyond the first round. She was back at the Olympics in 2008 where finished eighth in Beijing. From there on a star was born.Our golden girl has won gold at the All Africa Games, Africa Championships, Continental Cup, Commonwealth Games and the World Championships. She has also won the diamond league in the 400m twice.
