On Sunday, 8 March 2026, Sandfire’s Motheo Operations and business partners joined the global celebration of International Women’s Day under the theme “Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls.” This event brought colleagues and leaders together to emphasise the importance of nurturing environments where women and girls can thrive, lead, and have their voices both elevated and heard.

In her opening remarks, Onalenna Candy Godie, General Manager at Motheo, highlighted the crucial role women play within the organisation and the mining sector at large. She highlighted the need to create opportunities for women to grow, lead, and make meaningful contributions in the workplace, reaffirming our dedication to fostering an inclusive culture that champions gender equality.

Adding a unique perspective, Basadi Molelekeng shared her inspiring journey as a commercial farmer who has defied the odds to achieve success. Her story underscored resilience, determination, and the strength of women who continue to break barriers and create opportunities for themselves and their communities.
A notable highlight was an engaging panel discussion moderated by Letsebeng Selawe, Senior Advisor ESG and Sustainability, which facilitated meaningful dialogue on advancing equality through intentional action and shared responsibility.

The panellists — Warona Moswate, Setso Moswete, Tebogo Kutuso, and Retlhabile Kate — shared powerful insights, personal experiences, and perspectives on empowerment and leadership, emphasising the role each individual plays in driving progress for women in the workplace and within communities.
The discussion served as a reminder that meaningful progress requires commitment, collaboration, and a continued focus on creating opportunities for women and girls. At Sandfire’s Motheo Operations, we are steadfast in our commitment to fostering an inclusive environment where every woman is supported, valued, empowered to succeed and to ensure that !

Sandfire and BotswanaPost continue to put people at the centre of their social impact agenda through purposeful partnerships that uplift vulnerable groups and communities. Building on a long-standing commitment of driving inclusivity and empowerment, both parties have once again partnered to support learners in the Disability Unit at Kachikau Primary School along side Kazungula Bridge Marathon where Sandfire sponsored People Living with Disability Category.

As part of this collaboration, Sandfire donated beds complete with full bedding sets to enhance the learners’ living conditions. In addition, Botswana Post provided essential hygiene products and toiletries, including sanitary towels. BotswanaPost facilitated the transportation of the donated beds from Ghanzi to the Education Office Warehouse in Kasane, ensuring seamless delivery and implementation of the initiative.

A handover ceremony was hosted at Kachikau Primary School on Friday 27 February 2026, bringing together village leadership, school authorities and key stakeholders. The event marked a collective commitment to safeguarding the dignity, comfort and well-being of learners in the Disability Unit, while demonstrating the utility of strategic partnerships in driving meaningful and sustainable social impact.

Our Motheo team joined forces with Simolola Drilling Services, International Facilities Services, DHMT, the Botswana Prevention of Gender-Based Violence and Support Centre, and the Department of Gender Affairs – Ghanzi, to mark 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence at a commemorative event in Kuke on Wednesday, 3 December.

United under this year’s theme, "End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls," the event highlighted the need for collective action to ensure online and digital spaces are free from harassment, abuse, and control, acknowledging the potential for digital harm to lead to real-life violence.

Officer Commanding District No. 6, Thari Senwelo, spoke about the importance of vigilance and proactive measures by encouraging everyone, particularly young people, to use digital platforms responsibly, report any digital harassment and abuse, and support each other in fostering a culture of respect and equality online.
"Each one of us has a role to play to ensure our digital spaces are inclusive, respectful, and free from intimidation," he said.

Community Relations Manager, Kabo Thankane, also encouraged the community not to ignore gender-based violence but to report it and support those affected. She emphasised the critical need for awareness and education, pointing out that recognising the signs of violence is the first step toward prevention.
"We must stand together to dismantle the structures that allow such violence to persist."

Sandfire through its subsidiary, Tshukudu Metals Botswana (TMB) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to unlock value chain development through an industry initiative led by the Botswana Government’s Ministry of Minerals and Energy.
Other signatories to the MOU include Kopano Copper Mine, Debswana Diamond Company, Botswana Chamber of Mines, Morupule Coal Mine, Botswana Railways, and Botswana Ash.

The MOU reflects the commitment of industry to the Government’s Citizen Economic Empowerment Programme (CEEP), Repairs & Rebuild Ecosystem and associated training facilities.
The initiative seeks to identify where mining companies have high demand for products, explore opportunities for local production and provide support to up-scale production through supply chain processes.

Sandfire has committed to support The Repairs & Rebuild Ecosystem initiative, and the associated training facilities project, which seek to identify the most efficient delivery of repairs and rebuilding services and training facilities through small and medium local workshops, existing training institutions and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). This will also involve additional investment in greenfield facilities to enhance existing capability and capacity and maintain a vibrant and functioning trade support network.

Our Motheo team joined the international community to commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness month. Each October serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of early detection, education, and support in the fight against breast cancer. This month we come together to honour the strength and resilience of those affected by this disease, celebrate survivors, and remember loved ones we may have lost and the many impacted from this disease.

Throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we also encourage everyone to take proactive steps towards their health. This includes scheduling regular screenings, maintaining open communication with healthcare providers, and staying informed about the latest research and treatment options. Motheo in collaboration with Medical Rescue International Botswana (MRI-Botswana) team delivered presentations on the different types of breast cancer, recognising symptoms, understanding risk factors, performing self-examinations, and accessing available support services.

This month provides a beacon of hope, reminding us of the progress we have made and the work still to be done.
