The Sandfire team at Gaborone Corporate Office, gathered to observe R U OK? campaign. During the month of September, we’re focussing on mental wellbeing and the importance of looking after ourselves and each other.

The R U OK? campaign acts as a reminder to check-in on the people around us. It promotes open and honest conversations about mental health, striving to dismantle the stigma surrounding it.

Throughout this month, our team is encouraged to ask, “Are you okay?” and to genuinely listen without judgement and to offer support and understanding. Remember, a simple question can lead to meaningful conversations.

Sandfire was pleased to welcome representatives from China Copper Corporation, one of our largest consumers of copper concentrate and world leading producers of alumina, primary aluminium and other industrial metals, for a recent site visit at Motheo Copper Operations.

During the visit, the delegation toured the T3 open pit, processing plant and concentrate shed, gaining a first-hand view Motheo’s size and scale, concentrate quality and logistics capability.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity to share operational insights, discuss sustainable production practices and showcase the continued focus of our Motheo team on safe, efficient and responsible copper production.

Thank you to the China Copper Company team for visiting Motheo and for the ongoing constructive discussions that support our shared commitment to responsible copper supply.

Sandfire Motheo is a proud sponsor of the 11th graduation ceremony of the Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST), set to take place on 11 September 2026 in Palapye, Botswana.

This year, the ceremony embraces the theme of “Innovate, Diversify, Transform, and Sustain.” A key pillar of Motheo’s Community Framework is the provision of economic opportunities through education, training and employment. Our partnership with BIUST demonstrates our commitment to nurturing the next generation of leaders in science and engineering.

Motheo Asset President, Jamie Caratti, will award the best overall student in these disciplines with a prize of P10 000.

At Sandfire Motheo, we believe sustainable community investment starts with creating opportunities that can benefit future generations.
We are proud to launch the inaugural GM’s Academic Excellence Awards, recognising the outstanding academic achievements of students in the Ghanzi region and acknowledging the teachers and schools whose commitment and leadership contributed to their academic success.

The awards recognised the region’s top-performing learners in the Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE), Junior Certificate Examinations (JCE) and Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Educations (BGCSE).

Speaking at the awards, Motheo’s General Manager Onalenna Candy Godie, encouraged learners to believe in their potential and imagine the possibilities that lie ahead.
“Perhaps among us sits Botswana's future President, a renowned doctor, an innovative engineer, a respected judge, a successful entrepreneur, or even the future General Manager of Sandfire,” Candy said.

Students and teachers also visited our Motheo Copper Operations ahead of the ceremony, gaining valuable exposure to the mining industry and the many career pathways it offers.

Sandfire proudly sponsored the recent Mascom Batanani Walk held in Francistown, under the theme “Step Up for Child Safety.” Our participation at Batanani Walk reflects our commitment to the power of community collaboration to drive meaningful change.

This year's event focused on enhancing child protection systems and improving children's access to justice in Botswana. Funds raised will support the refurbishment of local police centres, creating welcoming and safe spaces for children with specialised tools and professionally trained staff .This initiative is expected to significantly improve the experiences of children interacting with the justice system, ensuring their voices are heard and respected.
