BUSINESS BOTSWANA STRENGTHENS BOTSWANA-CHINA TRADE AND INVESTMENT RELATIONS
The Business Botswana CEO, Ms Tumi Mbaakanyi, participated in the recent State Visit to the Peopleโs Republic of China, which brought together key stakeholders to advance trade, investment and economic cooperation between the two countries.
Ms Mbaakanyi attended the China-Botswana Agricultural Investment Cooperation Promotion Event, officiated by the MInister of Lands and Agriculture Hon Dr Edwin G. Dikoloti. Opportunities were explored across the agricultural and food ecosystem, agroprocessing, tourism and other value chains, with a focus on cross country trade. The Botswana Pavilion was launched showcasing locally produced goods and products and creating a ready market therein. Through the BB Botswana and China Offices, continuous connection of Botswana businesses with opportunities in the Chinese market, and vice versa, ensues.
Another key highlight was the BotswanaโChina Business Forum, hosted by the Botswana Investment and Trade Centre and the Embassy of Botswana, which brought together President Advocate Duma Gideon Boko, members of Cabinet, Chinese and Botswana entrepreneurs and other stakeholders.
The President in his Special Appearance Address, emphasised the importance of strengthening bilateral trade and investment between the 2 countries. In her Vote of Thanks, Ms Mbaakanyi reaffirmed Business Botswanaโs commitment to supporting these outcomes and strengthening private sector partnerships.
A significant milestone was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Business Botswana and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) to strengthen trade relations and cooperation between the private sectors of Botswana and China. Partnerships that drive economic transformation and prosperity shall be facilitated.
