𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐁𝐨𝐭𝐬𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐚 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐬, 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬

This morning, the Creative Arts and Media Sector held its Sector Level Consultative Council (SLCC) meeting, co-chaired by the Minister of Sports and Arts, Honourable Jacob Kelebeng and the Sector Chairperson, Mr Tonderai Tsara. The meeting brought together Government and Private Sector representatives, including Business Botswana CEO Ms Tumi Mbaakanyi, to discuss key sector issues and identify practical areas for collaboration.

Discussions focused on sports talent development from sustainable investments, creative sector support market access and financing and the 3 sectors’ contribution to the economy as well as procurement therein per Cabinet Directive. The Botswana Film, Television and Performing Arts Production Incentive Programme was also discussed as a potential tool to support local production and industry growth. The meeting highlighted the need for continued Government–Private Sector collaboration, with follow-up on the key issues raised to support practical interventions, investment and opportunities across the sector.

Yesterday, Business Botswana and the Ministry of International Relations, Botswana (MIR) held a Sector High-Level Consultative Council (HLCC) meeting, co-chaired by the Minister of International Relations, Hon. Dr Phenyo Butale, and Business Botswana’s Ministry HLCC Coordinator, Mr Joseph Willie. The meeting brought together Government and Private Sector representatives to strengthen dialogue and alignment on key issues related to the country's international relations and economic diplomacy. Updates on the Foreign Policy, Economic Diplomacy Policy, Meetings/Incentives/Conferences/Exhibitions (MICE) ensued as well as deliberations on diplomatic activities by MIR and Business Botswana. The upcoming National Business Conference was also a discussion matter.

The Sector HLCCs are part of the Public-Private Dialogue framework, providing a platform for Government and the Private Sector to align and ensure that Botswana’s international relations and economic diplomacy create meaningful opportunities for local businesses and support the country’s economic transformation.

Business Botswana remains committed to constructive dialogue and partnerships to advance Botswana’s interests and strengthen business opportunities, both locally and internationally.

Business Botswana hosted the Ministry of Health’s National Health Insurance (NHI) Secretariat this week for engagements on the Draft NHI Policy and its implications for the private sector. Ms Lydia Andries and her team updated on the policy development and implementation progress, noting that the policy had been tabled before Parliament. Business Botswana team welcomed the progress and committed to continued private sector participation, after the private sector had actively given feedback during development of the policy.

Dr Thabo Phologolo also engaged the Business Botswana team on the policy’s stakeholder consultations and the technical aspect therein. The Business Botswana Board of Directors welcomed the overall direction of the reform and emphasised the importance of continued private sector involvement throughout the implementation stages to support efficiency, competitiveness and sustainability in the healthcare sector

𝐏𝐒𝐃𝐑𝐅 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐁𝐨𝐭𝐬𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐚

Recently, Business Botswana, through the Private Sector Disaster Response Fund (PSDRF), donated 5,000 units of first-line malaria treatment to Chobe District Council, II Memorial Hospital and Okavango District Council - ODC

The donation comes at a critical time as malaria continues to affect communities across the northern districts.

In Okavango, Deputy Council Secretary, Mr Michael Israel said the district has recorded 1,038 malaria cases and 4 deaths, noting that the donation will strengthen the district’s response and help protect communities.

In Chobe, Council Chairperson Hon Johane Chenjekwa highlighted the impact of heavy rains and stagnant water on mosquito breeding, while noting the district’s recent loss of a malaria patient from Pandamatenga.

In Ngamiland, Deputy Council Secretary for Primary Health Care, Dr Sandra Maripe, said “𝘕𝘨𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥, 𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢 𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘢 𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘤 𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘢, 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘶𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘢 𝘩𝘪𝘨𝘩 𝘯𝘶𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘢 𝘤𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘴. 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘥𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘧𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘦𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘢 𝘥𝘳𝘶𝘨𝘴.”

PSDRF Board Chairperson Mr Butler Phirie thanked the private sector for making the intervention possible:“When businesses pool their resources, we are able to make a meaningful contribution and support communities where the need is greatest.”

What a day on the Green! Yesterday’s 18th Business Botswana Golf Day brought together over 200 people from diverse sectors, including 140+ golfers, cementing its place as a favourite corporate Golf event. Great Conversations prevailed. Partnerships were mooted. Beautiful Music. Good Food. Lovely People !!

At the Prize Giving Dinner, the Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) CEO, Mr Olebile Sikwane, delivered a keynote on the sports economy, calling on the private sector to see sport not just as entertainment but as an opportunity for investment and growth.

For the Business Botswana CEO, Ms Tumi Mbaakanyi, this being her 1st Golf Day and Official Tee Off, since she assumed the role, she used the occasion to reinforce Business Botswana’s mandate and the objective of the flagship annual Golf Day. The Nigerian delegation recently paid a courtesy call on the executives of Choppies Botswana, continuing engagements aimed at creating market access opportunities for Nigerian businesses in Botswana. Led by Business Botswana’s Head of Capacity Building and Business Advisory, Mr Kagiso Koyabe, the delegation met with Choppies executives to explore opportunities for Nigerian products to enter the Botswana retail market. The engagement was attended by the Honourable Federal Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, accompanied by the High Commissioner of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Botswana, H.E. John Shama Shaga.

Continuing from this engagement, a Nigerian product and cultural showcasing was held this morning at Choppies Westgate Mall, bringing Nigerian products, culture and enterprise closer to local consumers.

The showcasing provided participating businesses with an opportunity to engage directly with the market and explore potential distribution and commercial opportunities, further advancing the Trade Mission’s objective of turning business engagements into tangible market access and strengthening trade and investment relations between Botswana and Nigeria.
