🌞 From Scrubbing Dishes to Powering a Village
We’re proud to announce that Mr Solar, a 100% citizen- and woman-owned company, has been awarded a 2 MW solar power plant in Tutume by the Botswana Power Corporation! ⚡
This marks a new chapter — from installing solar at farms, to now powering over 23,000 people with clean, reliable energy. 🌍
Remember that just eight years ago, I was an unemployed Mining engineering graduate scrubbing dishes.
I went into solar because back then, it was only for the elite — no one was thinking about the people who needed it most: farmers.
When I entered the market, borehole solar systems cost between P80,000 and P150,000.
Our first system cost P20,000 — affordable, reliable, and designed for ordinary Batswana.
That’s the beauty of being young and unemployed — you can outcompete the big players because you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
When I stepped into the solar market, technicians and electricians who were home without work stood up too — saying, “If she can do it, so can we.”
That made me proud — solar for Batswana, by Batswana. 🇧🇼
The journey wasn’t perfect, but the jump was.
Sometimes you can’t wait for perfect conditions — you just start. You learn more doing than planning.
One thing I’ve learned along the way: Botswana’s farmers are the most disciplined and informed customers you’ll ever meet.
They respect time — 5am is 5am. They do their research, know what they want, and value honesty and results. Thank you for breaking and rebuilding me.
Our 25-year Power Purchase Agreement means that from the day our plant begins operating, Mr Solar will receive monthly payments from BPC for the next 25 years building generational wealth that my children will inherit.
Botswana’s solar industry will create more millionaires in the next decade than any other sector.
The only question is will you be on the inside — earning, owning, and powering the future?
We need to make sure Botswana’s solar industry is built and owned by Batswana. ☀️
💳 Our Visa She’s Next campaign is about building the pathways that let women, youth, and everyday citizens own the solar plants that power our nation.
Let’s make ownership the new empowerment, share my story.
