The Selva Maya and Mesoamerican Reef (SM&MAR) Tri-national Lead is responsible for delivering people and nature outcomes through systemic transformation in the ecoregion shared by Belize, and some parts of Guatemala and México, in close collaboration with a wide array of key public international and private stakeholders.
The position will lead a comprehensive strategy aimed at transitioning to an alternative economic pathway that conserves and values natural capital, providing inclusive, low-carbon development, halting ecosystem degradation, and preventing the main drivers that threaten the large-scale viability of the Selva Maya and the Mesoamerican Reef and the wellbeing of the local communities. This function will report to the Director to Accelerate Impact, a Latin American Regional role.
The Lead will work in close collaboration with BU directors and Conservation Director, and teammates in Mexico, Belize, and Guatemala, including country SM&MAR coordinators). This position will be part of an informal network of peers in similar roles in the Gran Chaco (Argentina and Paraguay), Pará (Brazilian Amazon) and Araguaia (Brazilian Cerrado) among other Iconic Places in Latin America, providing an opportunity to exchange ideas and knowledge. Iconic Place refers to the priority sites across Latin America Region. This position will be working in a matrix organization and hierarchy, it is essential to have experience in this field and being able to influence without direct authority. The work will be under the home-office modality.
