On the wee hours of the morning we were awaken by mom, Urdulita Guerra Green to get ready to come on Grandfather Thomas Green dorey to San Ignacio to sell our produce. On the previous day we had dug cassava, coco, sweet potato, etc We also harvested All Spice and collected eggs. That upper Macal River was exciting filled with sight seeing of animals and birds who came to take a morning drink at the river bank. And was filled with great joy with interaction of down river.neighbours like the Cals, Blackmore and Mr.Patchin',s family some waving or others in Cristo Rey loading produce. We.the Green granddauthers dipped our hands in the cool water..It was really fun to see.how the river was the mode.of transportation and sometimes dad and grandpa had to paddle while other times the propelled the dorey forward with poles..Macaw bank was my first home and a place I forever.cherish. I laugh at how agronomist have brought theories which just complicated li We had an immense All Spice tree and my grandfather and dad put a circular carpet like a large Christmas skirt and then when the ground was laden dumped it into a larger container lol! You know how much money you could make of one tree. Life was simplier, safer and in a sense happier.
Now for those to whom I shared the blessing which I will include if your tree bears in season and leaves never wither because they were near stream think you don't need to irrigate because they are already receiving water from the water table .Old Man River left us a great history of the mahogany camps, oxen driver, knowledgeable of the river. And soon I will enjoy good health to board that skiff and share of grandpa born in Never Delay. We love you grandpa and in your 90 and scores you made that journey telling us of the Belize River during that first Belikin.La Ruta Maya Race in that skiff.
