The majority of our house-panthers are genetically not far removed from their ancestors. This is why breeding your cats without pedigree because they may look to you as having a 'breed' in their ancestry is unfair to potential adopters. Seal point does not equal Siamese, dilute black colour (grey) does not equal Russian Blue, etc.
Furthermore, this genetic makeup means cats oftentimes react to their environment similarly to how a wild animal might react; they are NOT dogs. They are easily startled, like their space, prefer to hide or find higher ground, avoid conflicts, find change stressful, are overstimulated by quick movements, etc.
