Racism springs from the need of individuals who feel superior to others. This need is irrational and stems from complete lack of confidence in one’s own intellect and skills. Michelle Obama, the former fist lady of the United States of America said, “History has shown us that courage can be contagious, and hope can take on a life of its own.” The courage that I would like to refer to is to respond to racism correctly. Not responding will encourage more racist actions by perpetrators.

Racism : A Bane to Overcome

Whenever someone attempts to use the racism card, it gives me a reason to be be a better human being. There is no need to react as that will bring you to their "dirty level".
This Friday, I leave you to ponder what is it that you do to counter a racist comment, act or action. I recollect that a colleague had once asked me whether my audience in any context understand what I speak because I speak unlike a native speaker. My response was a smile and a counter question whether my colleague understood what I spoke.

If you come across a wrongdoing or an activity which benefits a few, do not hesitate to expose the corruption. Fear is a tool these scrupulous elements rely on. Know that the world is full of people who will always support if you took the right action. Undeniably, the path is fraught with difficulties and perils. But the end result is always in sight and is beneficial to the larger community.

TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SLAPPED ME IN THE FACE.
They kept on walking until they found an oasis, where they decided to take a bath. The one who had been slapped got stuck in the mire and started drowning, but the friend saved him. After he recovered from the near drowning, he wrote on a stone:
TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SAVED MY LIFE.
The friend who had slapped and saved his best friend asked him, "After I hurt you, you wrote in the sand and now, you write on a stone, why?" The other friend replied "When someone hurts us we should write it down in sand where winds of forgiveness can erase it away. But, when someone does something good for us, we must engrave it in stone where no wind can ever erase it."

LEARN TO WRITE YOUR HURTS IN THE SAND AND TO CARVE YOUR BENEFITS IN STONE.
They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but then an entire life to forget them.
Do not value the things you have in your life. But value who you have in your life!

Burnout is being researched continuously. This psychological distress has been a constant result of work-related stress and poor mental health. 2020 saw the highest number of su***de cases across the world. Pandemic was the likely reason for such high su***de cases. Employers have an obligation to reach out to their employees and encourage participation in education and awareness of mental health and staff health. What should leaders do to help and support their employees?

In the last week itself, there have been many articles on flexible work choices, options employees have, and the big shift in the thought process of the employers. Before, during and at this stage of the pandemic restrictions, the most critical issue seen is employee’s morale – whether they are meeting the needs of the business working from home, or excited to join office as usual or are stressed that there maybe a remote chance that they will pick up the covid infection on way to work or at work. WFH has been an elixir for many. Employers are finding it difficult to navigate the demand of a flexible work option. Amazon, Google, Microsoft and many more leaders in the industry realise that if employees do not get their “choice”, there maybe a wave of resignations. What do you think is the right choice?

The most important and critical professionals in the fight against COVID-19 were doctors. Did they get stressed? They did. Were they in need of support from any source? Most of us will answer yes to that question. Was it guidance, encouragement or solving questions in their mind? Could be any of these or more. This brings me to mentoring. Across all professions, mentoring is an important tool for talent growth, an answer to curiosity and development of skill. It is a relationship which is mutually beneficial between two individuals, based on trust, with respect for each other typically offering both professional and personal advantages for both parties involved. Mentoring is a unique combination of coaching, training, consulting and much more.

Here is a window in the world of Doctors too.

I read an article in HBR by Virginia Buckingham. This article will make you look back at your own and trace what you did well and events that you wish could change or wish they never should have happened. Setbacks and unexpected failures may make you lose trust in your . Today’s scenario is the ideal situation to discuss what will happen if the pandemic situation continues. Will I lose my job, will my business collapse, how will I feed my family, where will my dinner come from – each one of us will have a different question. Have in your abilities and weather this temporary phase.

Moving forward in spite of trauma.

I am fortunate to be actively associated with two non-profits. In this hour of unprecedented measures, both the operational teams are contributing to the community in their own way. While a large number of community members are working and supporting from the safe confines of their homes, these selfless workers are on the road, in the office, in the transition homes, with the seniors and infirm all the while being aware that maintaining safe distance and precaution will keep them safe. Like the health care workers and the emergency staff, these critical resources are there every day where they are needed.

I have not forgotten that recognizing all who are actively involved in supporting the community is the need of the hour. Burnout in these situations is certainly a risk. In these times we must look after their well-being in the best way possible. Have you done your part?
