Your baby starts practicing rolling over in the middle of the night πŸ˜…

Just when you thought sleep was getting better, your baby discovers they can roll .. and suddenly nighttime becomes their personal training session πŸ’ͺ

The good news? This is incredibly common. When babies are learning a new motor skill, their brains are busy making connections and they often want to practice whenever they can β€” including at 2:00AM πŸ₯±

You might notice:

✨ More night wakings
✨ Rolling onto their tummy and getting "stuck"
✨ Extra movement in the crib
✨ Frustration when they can't get back to their preferred position

A tip that can help: if your baby rolls onto their tummy and gets upset, you can choose to give them **one free flip** back onto their back. If they roll again, try offering reassurance from the crib side first: gentle shushing, patting or your usual soothing method. This gives them the opportunity to learn that tummy sleeping is safe and comfortable while still feeling supported πŸ’–

The even better news? This phase is usually temporary. As your baby gains confidence with the skill and gets more daytime practice, the novelty wears off and sleep often settles again 🀞

πŸ’‘ Plenty of supervised floor time during the day can help them master the skill faster and reduce the need for midnight practice sessions. Also remember to always put your baby down on their back initially for the onset of sleep.

Tell meβ€”did your baby become a midnight rolling machine when they learned this milestone? πŸ‘‡

✨ Safe sleep doesn't have to be complicated ✨

πŸ’€ When it comes to reducing the risk of sleep-related infant deaths, remember the ABCs of Safe Sleep:

🩡 Alone β€” No pillows, blankets, stuffed animals, loveys or bumpers in baby's sleep space.

🩡 Back β€” Always place your baby on their back for every sleep, including naps.

🩡 Crib β€” Use a safety-approved crib, bassinet or play yard with a firm mattress and fitted sheet.

Creating a safe sleep environment is one of the most important things you can do during your baby's first year. While there is so much information out there, the ABCs are a simple place to start βœ”οΈ

Save this post for later and share it with a parent or caregiver who could use the reminder 🀍
