🇨🇦 Canada has announced a temporary exemption for unaccompanied minors under its new refugee claim restrictions. Eligible minors under 18, who are in Canada without a parent or legal guardian, may still be allowed to have their refugee claims heard despite the recently introduced asylum limitations. The move aims to ensure vulnerable youth are not unfairly impacted while navigating the refugee process alone.

Make informed decisions for your future in Canada. 🇨🇦✨

Canada is improving how immigration data is handled to make the overall process faster and more efficient. IRCC can now share key applicant details like identity, status, and documents across federal departments and provinces through structured agreements. This reduces the need to submit the same information multiple times and helps different programs work together smoothly. For instance, details from your PR application can now support your citizenship process without starting from scratch.

In the past, limited coordination between departments caused unnecessary delays, repeated paperwork, and confusion for applicants. With this new system in place, applicants can expect better transparency, quicker processing, and a more streamlined experience while still maintaining clear limits on data sharing and privacy.

🇨🇦 Canada Brings Stricter Asylum Timelines (Effective June 3, 2025)

🚫 1. One-Year Rule for Claims
Applicants who entered Canada on or after June 24, 2020 must apply within 1 year. Delayed claims may not be forwarded to the IRB, limiting the chance for a full hearing.

🚫 2. Unofficial Border Crossing Limit
Crossing the Canada–US border outside official points? You must apply within 14 days, or your case won’t be reviewed by the IRB.

⚠️ What Changes for You
• No IRB review means no complete refugee hearing
• Decisions can come quicker with fewer appeal options
• Timelines are now strictly enforced

📍 Safe Third Country Agreement Continues
Asylum seekers at the border or within 14 days of irregular entry may still be returned to the US unless they meet specific exceptions.

👉 These updates highlight the importance of acting quickly and understanding eligibility before applying.

🇨🇦 Important update for families applying under the Super Visa program. Starting March 31, 2026, IRCC is introducing new income rules that offer more flexibility for hosts sponsoring their parents and grandparents.

Under the revised guidelines, there are now 2 ways to meet the income requirement:

▶️ Extended income evaluation: Instead of relying only on the most recent tax year, hosts and co-signers can now qualify by meeting the required income in either of the last two taxation years. This change gives applicants more chances to meet eligibility.

▶️ Combined income option: If the host and co-signer meet a portion of the required income threshold, the remaining balance can be fulfilled by including the income of the visiting parents or grandparents.

These new rules will apply to all applications from March 31, 2026, including those already in progress. While applicants who already meet the criteria will remain unaffected, others may need to provide additional documentation to qualify under the updated system.
