📅 Starting Sept 1, 2025, IRCC is increasing the minimum proof‑of‑funds required for living expenses in Canada. Here's what you need to know:

📌 New Financial Thresholds (excluding tuition & travel):

1 person: CAD 22,895 (up from CAD 20,635)
2 people: CAD 28,502
3 people: CAD 35,040
4 people: CAD 42,543
5 people: CAD 48,252
6 people: CAD 54,420
7 people: CAD 60,589

💡 Why the change?

IRCC adjusts financial thresholds annually to align with rising living costs—this year, it's a ~11 % increase.

🔍 What this means for you:

- Applications submitted on or after Sept 1, 2025 must meet the new thresholds.
- Submissions before that date can rely on the current requirement of CAD 20,635 for a single applicant.

1. Audit your savings early—ensure you’re on track.
2. Gather acceptable documents: bank statements, GIC, loans, etc.
3. If you’re including dependents, plan for their required amounts too.
4. Apply before September 1, 2025 to lock in the lower rate—if possible.

📢 Important Update: Changes to Open Work Permits for Family Members of Temporary Residents

Starting January 21, 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is updating eligibility criteria for family open work permits (OWPs). These changes aim to align with Canada’s economic goals and address labour market needs. Here’s what you need to know:

✅ Who Will Be Eligible?
👉 Spouses of International Students enrolled in:
- Master’s programs (16+ months)
- Doctoral programs
- Select professional and eligible programs

👉 Spouses of Foreign Workers employed in:
- TEER 0 or 1 occupations
- Select TEER 2 or 3 occupations in sectors like health care, construction, education, and more. (Full list available January 21, 2025.)

🕒 Additional Requirements:
- The foreign worker must have at least 16 months remaining on their work permit.
- Dependent children of foreign workers will no longer be eligible for family OWPs.

❗ Renewals: OWPs approved under previous criteria remain valid. Family members in Canada may renew their permits if they meet the same criteria as the original approval.
