SBC and QSBC status can unlock major value for your business, including access to the lifetime capital gains exemption. But some owners only learn about the benefits when they’re ready to sell. By then, it can be too late to qualify.

Understanding these rules early can strengthen your succession plan, protect your wealth, and maximize your opportunities.

When sustainability is a core company value, it’s something you want to see continue, even when the time is right for you to sell your business.

Based in BC, our client, Wishbone Group of Companies, is an industry leader creating site furnishings from recycled plastic lumber for cities and municipalities across North America. From park benches and bike racks, to picnic tables and playground seating, every piece is designed with sustainability in mind.

They turned to our M&A team for support finding a buyer that would uphold their legacy in sustainability, as well as delivering high-quality design and functionality.

Community is everything, especially in the face of disaster. We're incredibly grateful to the countless firefighters, emergency responders, and volunteers who continue to support ongoing efforts to help and protect the evacuees and people who have been drastically affected by the Ontario wildfires.

122 wildfires are currently burning across Northwestern Ontario, according to the Ministry of Natural Resources. To support local relief efforts, we've donated $50,000 on behalf of the Doane Grant Thornton Foundation to the Northwestern Ontario Wildfire Community Support Fund.

Our hearts and thoughts continue to be with the communities and wildlife impacted.

What does a vibrant community look like?

Great communities don't happen by accident. They're built by people who choose to show up, get involved, and work together for something bigger than themselves.

On Tuesday, community leaders from across Kitchener-Waterloo gathered for Doane Grant Thornton's Vibrant Communities Live Lab to imagine a region where compassion, connection, and collaboration thrive.

Representing healthcare, education, charities, the arts, business, and community organizations, participants brought diverse perspectives but shared a common goal: creating a stronger, more inclusive future for Kitchener-Waterloo Region.

The conversations were thoughtful. The ideas were bold. And the energy in the room was a powerful reminder that meaningful change doesn't happen in isolation—it happens when people come together with a willingness to listen, learn, and take action.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, shared your perspectives, and contributed to the conversation. We look forward to seeing the partnerships, ideas, and commitments that emerge from this work—and the impact they'll have across our community in the months and years ahead.
