We had a fantastic time welcoming the youth from the Mississippi Mills Youth Centre to the Station 1 (Almonte) and Mississippi Mills Regional Training Centre yesterday for a fun-filled morning of learning, teamwork, and friendly competition!
Working in teams, participants rotated through a series of interactive stations where they learned about many aspects of the fire service. Youth tested their skills operating fire hoses, matching hose tools and appliances to their uses, explored our SCBA confidence trailer, learned how firefighters safely rescue trapped occupants from vehicles using specialized extrication equipment, and toured our burn can training prop while using a thermal imaging camera to locate hidden targets.
One of the highlights of the day was becoming "fire investigators" for a challenge that required teams to examine burn patterns and clues to determine where a fire started and what caused it. The groups asked great questions, worked together exceptionally well, and applied what they had learned throughout the session.
The competition wrapped up with a quiz that tested everyone's knowledge from the day's activities, and we were incredibly impressed with the results. The participants demonstrated just how well they listened, learned, and retained information throughout the visit. Their enthusiasm, teamwork, and problem-solving skills made the day a great success.
A big thank you to the staff and youth from the Mississippi Mills Youth Centre for spending the day with us. Our members thoroughly enjoyed sharing what we do, showcasing the Regional Training Centre, and helping inspire the next generation of community-minded leaders. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for another visit in the future! ๐๐
