table.

Do not charge devices in overhead compartments and never charge e-cigarettes or vapes on a plane.

If a battery overheats or fails, it is important for the flight crew to be able to respond quickly.

🚒 Fill the Boot is Back This Saturday! 🚒

Members of the Mississippi Mills Fire Department will be out on Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. collecting donations in support of Muscular Dystrophy Canada’s Fill the Boot campaign.

📍 Look for us on Ottawa Street (near the intersection of Ottawa Street and George Street) and help us fill the boot!

For more than 70 years, firefighters across Canada have partnered with Muscular Dystrophy Canada to help fund research, provide access to life-changing equipment, support advocacy efforts, and assist Canadians living with neuromuscular disorders and their families.

🐉 🔥 No Dragons for Tea... Just Fire Safety Lessons! 🔥 🐉

This morning marked the final stop on our Fire Prevention Week classroom tour, reaching every Junior and Senior Kindergarten student in Mississippi Mills.

Over the past several weeks, Sparky and members of the Mississippi Mills Fire Department visited 11 classrooms at Naismith Memorial Public School - UCDSB, R. Tait McKenzie Public School - UCDSB, Holy Name of Mary Catholic School, and Pakenham Public School - UCDSB, reaching a total of 305 students. Together, we shared important fire safety lessons through a reading of 'No Dragons for Tea' by Jean E. Pendziwol and plenty of interactive discussions and activities.

During the presentations, students learned about the importance of smoke alarms, what to do if they discover a fire, why it's important to Get Outside and Stay Outside, having a family meeting place, and how firefighters wear special protective equipment to help keep them safe. We also practiced Stop, Drop and Roll and reinforced the message that firefighters are there to help and should never be hidden from during an emergency.

A big thank you to the students, teachers, and school staff who welcomed us into their classrooms. We hope everyone enjoyed meeting Sparky and learning how to stay fire safe at home and at school. Remember to talk with your family about your home escape plan! 🐾

🚒 🚨 Fire Prevention Week: Door-to-Door Campaign in Almonte This Thursday! 🚨 🚒

This Thursday evening, firefighters from Mississippi Mills Fire Department's Station 1 (Almonte) will be out in neighbourhoods across Almonte as part of our Fire Prevention Week public education campaign.

Between approximately 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., firefighters will be visiting homes to discuss important fire and life safety topics, including:

✅ Working smoke detectors on every storey and outside sleeping areas
✅ New Ontario carbon monoxide alarm requirements and where alarms should be installed
✅ Creating and practicing a home fire escape plan with your family
✅ Learning about Community Connect and how it can support emergency responders during an emergency

Our goal is simple: to help ensure every household has the information and tools needed to prevent fires and respond safely when an emergency occurs.

If you'd like assistance checking your smoke alarms or carbon monoxide alarms, just let our firefighters know during their visit.

Fire Prevention Week Tip:

Stop using your device right away if the battery smells strange, is warm to the touch, makes popping noises, changes in shape or color, or if you see smoke.

If it is safe, move the device away from anything that can catch fire.

A damaged battery can overheat and start a fire.

This Wednesday from approximately 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., firefighters from Station 2 (Pakenham) will be visiting homes throughout the community as part of our Fire Prevention Week door-to-door campaign.

🚒 Firefighter 1 Training Complete!

Congratulations to the 12 recruits who successfully completed Firefighter 1 (NFPA 1001 Level 1) yesterday, finishing with their final skills evaluations and written exam.

This achievement reflects plenty of hard work, dedication, and commitment to the fire service.

Well done to all involved, and best of luck as training continues! 👏🚒
