🚨MOOSE COLLISION ON TCH - SOUTHERN HARBOUR🚨
(Aug. 14)

~ 9:40 p.m.: A NFLD Bulletin Follower just reported a moose-vehicle collision on the Trans-Canada Highway just west of the intersection for Southern Harbour.

Traffic is reportedly slowed in the area.

The Arnold's Cove Fire Department will be reducing the overpass to a single lane and establishing traffic control from 9:30–10:30 AM. We're not expecting any lengthy delays, but please bear with us!

🕙 The riders pass Arnold's Cove around 10:20 AM today, Saturday, August 1st.
What is The Rolling Barrage?
It's a coast-to-coast motorcycle ride across Canada in support of Mental Health Awareness and PTSD — a cause that affects so many of our First Responders and Veterans. 💚

The ACVFD will be up on the overpass to show our support as they pass by. Come join us!
🇨🇦 Show up, wave your flags, and cheer these riders on as they embark on their cross-country journey for a cause that matters. Let's give them a Newfoundland welcome they won't forget!

⚠️ A Note on Safety
If you're coming out to watch, please follow all directions from traffic control and firefighters on scene. Stay well back from the roadway, keep a close eye on children, and do not stop on the overpass or block traffic lanes. Let's keep everyone safe while we celebrate! 🙏

FIRE BAN IN EFFECT FOR AREAS OF THE PROVINCE AS WILDFIRE RISK RISES
(July 7th)

The fire index across Newfoundland and Labrador continues to show elevated wildfire risks in several regions as of 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 7.

The entire Avalon Peninsula is currently listed as very high, with a fire ban in effect. Forest vegetation is very dry, creating a very high risk of wildfires. Officials warn that a wildfire could start easily and burn vigorously, with suppression efforts expected to be challenging.

Permits to burn brush and other materials are suspended in the area. All outdoor fires, including campfires, are banned, and the use of fireworks and sky lanterns is prohibited. Activities on forested land should be conducted with extreme caution.

The Burin Peninsula is listed as extreme, with a fire ban in effect. Forest conditions are considered dangerous, with an extreme risk of wildfires. A wildfire could start very easily, burn vigorously, and spread rapidly. Wildfire suppression would be challenging.

Burn permits remain suspended, all outdoor fires are banned, and fireworks and sky lanterns are prohibited.

The Clarenville area, including the Bonavista Peninsula, and central Newfoundland are listed as moderate. Forest vegetation is drying out, with an increasing risk of wildfires. A permit to burn is required for burning vegetation, brush, debris, wood, paper products, or other flammable materials in an open fire on forest land, within 300 metres of forest land, or on land containing flammable vegetation.

Outdoor fires, including campfires, are permitted with conditions, and activities on forested land should be conducted with caution.

The Badger and Millertown areas, including surrounding forested land in central Newfoundland, are listed as very high, with a fire ban in effect. Conditions remain very dry, with a very high risk of wildfires. A wildfire could start easily and burn vigorously, making suppression efforts challenging.

Permits to burn are suspended, all outdoor fires are banned, and fireworks and sky lanterns are prohibited.

The western portion of Newfoundland and the Northern Peninsula are currently listed between low and moderate.

In Labrador, southeastern and eastern Labrador are listed as high, while the central Labrador area is listed as moderate. Western Labrador is listed as very high, with extreme conditions around the Labrador City area as numerous wildfires continue to burn.

There are currently no wildfires burning on the island portion of Newfoundland.

This week, four dedicated members of our fire department are attending training school in Marystown to further strengthen their skills and better serve our community.

Volunteer firefighters give countless hours away from their families, jobs, and personal time to train and prepare for emergencies. Continued education and hands-on training are essential to keeping both our firefighters and our community safe.

We are proud of these members for stepping forward and continuing their fire service education, and we thank them for their commitment, professionalism, and dedication to protecting our town.
