After just experiencing this myself
I figured it’s a good reminder to follow the advice below:
Running a business online means putting yourself out there — and unfortunately, sometimes that also means dealing with negativity, harassment, fake accusations, or online bullying.
At Valley Virtual Assistant Firm, we want to remind business owners and creators that protecting your mental health is just as important as protecting your brand. 💚
Here are a few important reminders when dealing with online bullies:
• Do not engage emotionally.
People looking for drama often want a reaction. Respond professionally — or not at all.
• Screenshot everything.
Keep records of harassment, threats, fake reviews, or inappropriate comments.
• Use your page tools.
Block, mute, restrict, filter keywords, and turn on comment moderation when needed. Your page is YOUR space.
• Don’t take it personally.
Many times, online bullying says more about the other person than it does about you.
• Lean on your support system.
Talk to trusted friends, family, fellow business owners, or mental health supports if things become overwhelming.
• Protect your peace.
You are allowed to step away from your phone, log off, and reset. Not every comment deserves your energy.
• Continue building anyway.
Bullies want people to quit. Keep creating, keep growing, and keep showing up professionally.
Small businesses already face enough challenges. Supporting one another costs nothing — but tearing people down can have real emotional consequences.
Let’s build communities that support, encourage, and uplift each other instead.
