So I was out ground truthing my Green Leaf index Vegetative index from May 27. Happy to see a high correlation between stand height/density and the GLI number. The darker the green on the map, the thicker and denser the grass. Each pixel on the iPad is approximately 3cm square. You can see the difference between the upper field on the right and the lower field on the left. Irrigation on the upper field was started about 14 days after the lower field.

Here's how we can use orthomosiac data to monitor green up on our fields. The data is taken from a series of flights this spring with the base orthomosiac taken on May 17th.

Red means no growth activity, the light blue is the start of greening up and the darker the green, the higher the Green Leaf index number.

You can put this map on your phone and then walk the field to check what's happening at the red data and compare the different levels of the GLI index.

If you were doing row crops, you could see weak/no growth and also see any weeds coming up between the rows.

Recent 160 acre project elevations
Over 600 ft elevation range so the terrain following with the drone maintains a constant ground sampling distance

The elevation data for the terrain following comes from NASA. It was mapped 26 years ago by a radar system on the space shuttle

After the 2021 Tremont Creek fire burned up over 80% of the Barnes creek watershed, I decided to start mapping the lower portion from out property to Barnes Lake.
