If I could go back 12 years and do one thing differently, I would have bet on myself sooner.

At the time, I started a rent-to-own real estate business. It generated good income, helped people become homeowners, and taught me the power of leverage.

But I always treated it as a side business.

Every couple of years, I would tell myself, “I’ll leave corporate soon.” Then I would move the goalposts and wait for a better time.

Looking back, I realize franchising offers many of the advantages I valued in real estate. You can use financing, build equity, and create long-term wealth—but you also benefit from proven systems, established marketing, training, coaching, and experienced people helping you avoid costly mistakes.

The truth is, capital wasn’t holding me back.

Confidence was.

The right coaching and mentorship might have given me the conviction to go all in much earlier instead of spending years waiting for the perfect moment.

This time, I made the bet.

Over the past two years, I’ve sold five investment properties and reinvested in my franchise consulting business. The freedom, flexibility, and opportunity to help others achieve their business ownership goals have made it worthwhile.

Sometimes the biggest risk isn’t making the wrong decision.

It’s spending years waiting to make one at all.

It was a great day for a mid-day bike ride.

I am grateful for the flexibility my new consulting business affords me, allowing me to balance work and health as I see fit.

In my previous corporate role, particularly as a leader, I adhered to a standard 8-to-5 schedule, mainly for optics, which meant exercising early in the morning, typically at 6:30.

Now, I often find myself working productively in the early morning hours and exercising during the middle of the day, such as taking a 2-hour bike ride on a warm sunny day. It was a fabulous day in early October.

A long post to highlight that when considering your next career or business venture, be sure to prioritize life-work flexibility as an important component.
