Dreading the upcoming time change?

Daylight Savings (on November 3) means an extra hour of sleep for some people—but not for parents. Instead, it often means an early wake-up call from our little ones! 😯 🥱

Can we chat for a moment about something near and dear to my heart? 💜

You see, I’m not just a Sleep Consultant—I’m also a mom who has been right where you are.

Let me share a bit of my story with you.

There was a time when I was knee-deep in the trenches of sleep deprivation and struggling with my mental health. I have always needed alot of sleep, and wasn’t prepared for how difficult having a new baby would be. I felt like I was barely keeping it together, and the constant overwhelm seemed never-ending. 😔

Mama, I know firsthand how tough it can be to navigate the challenges of motherhood when you’re running on empty.

That’s why I’m here, helping other moms who are feeling lost in the fog of sleep deprivation. Through those tough times, I found my passion for helping mothers get proper rest and support their mental health. 💤

Because you deserve to feel rested, refreshed, and ready to take on the world (or at least tackle that pile of laundry!). And I’m here to support you every step of the way. 💪

I will be participating in Flora’s Walk in Barrie today, to raise awareness and advocate for increased funding and support for mothers in perinatal period. I hope to see many of you there! 💕

This is one of the tougher months for sleep… 5 months old! 😴

When your babe turns 5 months, here is what you can expect:

1. 3 naps a day, ideally with some naps over 1 hour in length. If you are still seeing cat naps on repeat - something is up! 4 naps at this age will throw off night time sleep (which we don’t want)!

2. The third nap of the day will almost always be short and it may also be more difficult for your baby to sleep at this time of the day. This is because sleep pressure is lower at the end of the day, making it harder to fall asleep. However, babe still needs that 3rd nap so don’t drop it yet!

3. The new skill of rolling may interfere with sleep! Be sure to practice lots of tummy time during the day to help your babe build up strength and the coordination to be able to flip back onto their back. This too shall pass mama, I promise! ❤️

The dreaded 4-month sleep regression 😢

Whether you have a baby who slept like a dream for the first 3 months, or perhaps your baby has never slept well.

Either way, the 4 month sleep regression is headed your way. 😬

During this time your baby’s sleep patterns will become disrupted, with more frequent night wakes, trouble settling for sleep and/or short naps. This is very normal and related to big developmental changes and sleep system maturation.

Here are my top tips on how to manage this regression:
1. Tag Team with Your Partner: Share the load! Take turns comforting and soothing your baby during the night awakenings. By splitting the responsibilities, you both get a chance to rest, making it easier to handle the sleep disruptions.

2. Prioritize Self-Care: It’s easy to put yourself last when you’re tired and focused on your baby, but taking care of yourself is crucial during this time. Try to squeeze in short naps when your baby sleeps during the day, eat nutritious meals, and ask for help from friends or family when you need it. Remember, a well-rested parent is better equipped to handle the challenges of the sleep regression.

3. Adjust Your Expectations: Recognize that this phase won’t last forever and try not to put too much pressure on yourself or your baby to “fix” the sleep disruptions immediately. Be patient and flexible with your routines, and trust that you’re doing the best you can. Sometimes just accepting that this is a tough time can help alleviate some of the stress.

If after a few weeks sleep hasn’t settled down, and you and baby are still both tired out, then it’s time for some support. Shoot me a DM and let’s chat about what is going on with zzzz’s at your home!

Save this for later as your go-to guide during the festive frenzy! 🎄🎉

Amidst the merry memories and family gatherings, the holiday season can bring its fair share of stress, especially when you have little ones in tow. Trying to squeeze in naps, dodge overtired tantrums, and keep everything running smoothly—it's a juggling act!

That's where the 80/20 rule comes in handy. Stick with your child's regular routine and sleep schedule 80% of the time. This provides a familiar and comforting structure, ensuring a holiday season filled with more "ho, ho, ho" than "no, no, no"!

For that extra 20%, add in some flexibility. Embrace naps-on-the-go for travel days, and consider a later nap or bedtime to accommodate those special festive moments. 🚗💤

With this approach, you can enjoy the holidays while ensuring a well-rested and happy little one (and preserving your sanity too!). ✨

Stay tuned for more holiday sleep tips. ⭐️
