A Big Thumbs Down for Simcoe County’s Job Board
I need to say this, because I know I’m not the only one feeling it — Simcoe County’s job posting board is incredibly disappointing. For a region this size, with so many people actively looking for work, the lack of resources is honestly frustrating.
A job board run by the county should offer far more listings, covering all skill levels, and even include odd jobs or short‑term work to help residents earn income. Instead, we get these “official” pages from Simcoe County, Barrie, and others that barely offer anything useful… yet they declare homelessness a state of emergency while providing very little support to actually address it.
And while we’re on the topic — trying to get financial help in Simcoe County has been a nightmare. I spoke with someone who was denied emergency housing assistance because, and I quote:
“We can’t help because you already paid the damage deposit.”
This person still owed $800 for half a month’s rent because their move‑in date wasn’t the 1st, but the 15th. They were trying to help themselves, doing the right thing, and were punished for it. No emergency funding. No financial support. Nothing.
It blows my mind how Simcoe County operates. Truly disappointing. Shame on you.
