Hi, my name is Calla and I am 15. I am the co-instructor of the girls leadership and kayaking program, KayakHER. I have been kayaking and grew up around the amazing paddling community my whole life. During that time, I have grown to love and be more confident in paddling. My goal with KayakHER is to share that love and to teach more young girls confidence in themselves, paddling skills and leadership at the same time as having fun outside. I think it is important to get young girls paddling because there are not nearly enough girls in the paddling community. When I was learning to paddle, I always thought we needed more girls on the river.

It is on the river that I have the most fun. I am always growing, learning from others and building confidence. We want KayakHER to support other girls to feel the same.

Hi, my name is Wren Rauliuk Dunn; one of KayakHERs instructors. I am 16 years old and like many of you, share a love for sports and the outdoors. I’ve been kayaking white water for 6 years, during which time I’ve had the opportunity to paddle many rivers in Ontario and Quebec. With the privilege of being a part of the paddling community, I’ve noticed only one concerning factor; the gender divide. Like many sports, the paddling community is predominantly male.

With KayakHER, my goal is to not only share my love of this amazing sport with others, but to do my part to reduce the gender divide in the white water paddling community. While also helping participants establish important skills which can be applied to everyday life and along the way, instill confidence, leadership and female empowerment. Because I truly believe people are capable of doing anything they put their mind to, no matter who they are or how they identify.
